WWE SmackDown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryJan 20, 2012

Friday night was a good episode of WWE SmackDown. I enjoyed last week more, but it still was a fun show. The two hours flew by and the Blue Brand once again shined. If I had to give a grade, I would go in the B range.

The Good

Daniel Bryan's opening promo was awesome. It may have been his best since facing off with Michael Cole on NXT back in 2010. He certainly looks to be a full-blown heel at this point, so we will see how that goes on the Road to WrestleMania.

Cody Rhodes vs. Justin Gabriel was fine. Hornswoggle did a fine job as the "pawn" in this entire segment, but it worked out in the end. Nice win for Cody here!

Epico and Primo defeated the Uso brothers in a nice match. It was not very long, but I was entertained. The heels continue to win, and that is good news in my book. Now we need some new teams in the company!

I loved the dance contest between Brodus Clay and Vickie Guerrero. Cameron and Naomi also did a wonderful routine. I can dance as well, so I know the feeling of "cutting a rug." By the way, Vickie looked great out there! Just a fun segment to get Brodus over even more.

Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett was an amazing match. I was fine with the outcome, only because it was not a normal match. If it was not a tables match, I would have taken issue about Sheamus losing. It was due to interference from Jinder Mahal, but he got his payback after the match.

Drew McIntyre losing to Santino in a blindfold match was interesting. I can't really judge until the story with Teddy Long is over, but if this is going somewhere, I like it. If this is going to do nothing for Drew in the end, I don't.

The main event of the evening was enjoyable. Daniel Bryan defending his World Title against Mark Henry was another short match. But I understand why. Henry still shouldn't be in the ring and Bryan needs to get his new "persona" over with the belt. Nice work with the lumberjacks as well!

Good luck Daniel at the Royal Rumble. Triple-threat steel cage match with Henry and Big Show for the World Title? Ouch!

Finally, I have to discuss my three "it" girls! Alicia Fox was MIA, but she picked up a win Monday night. Aksana was excellent backstage on SmackDown. Every spinning wheel segment was top notch! Last but certainly not least, Rosa Mendes continues to be the standout star of the tag division.

The Bad

I think Ted DiBiase is very talented. I am new to Hunico, but he has done a good job. However, I just don't care about their feud. I'm sorry—adding a flag match is not going to change my mind either. These two need something meaningful to do...

The Ugly

The Royal Rumble is next weekend. Right? I could be wrong, but I did not get that feeling watching the latest installment of SmackDown. WWE hyped up Randy Orton's return next week, but the second (third?) biggest PPV event of the year still has very little intrigue on the card (outside of the Rumble match).
