Australian Open 2012 TV Schedule: Federer vs. Djokovic and Best Matchups We Want
As the 2012 Australian Open really gets exciting when the final rounds commence, there are several matchups tennis fans would love to see.
One of them is Roger Federer versus Novak Djokovic, arguably the two best men's players in the world. However, Andy Murray is one player you must watch as the tournament progresses. His quest toward a first Grand Slam singles title will be exciting to watch unfold.
Let's look at three matchups we want to see the most.
Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic
These two stars are on opposite sides of the men's bracket, so the only way they can meet is if they both reach the final, which would be an extraordinary way to end the Australian Open.
Djokovic pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Federer in the semifinal of the US Open back in August, then went on to win the tournament for his third Grand Slam singles title of 2011.
The defeat was a heart breaking one for Federer, and you can bet that being the competitor he is, the Swiss star badly wants a rematch with Djokovic so he can avenge the loss from August.
Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray
Britain's Andy Murray has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title despite being highly ranked for several years now. He's come close many times, including two consecutive losses in the final in Melbourne to Djokovic last season and Federer in 2010.
Murray would love a chance to avenge his loss last year to the world's No. 1-ranked player, and would certainly have a good chance to upset him and make the final, possibly creating a matchup with Federer or Spain's Rafael Nadal.
Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have played each other several times in Grand Slam finals, including some epic battles at the French Open and Wimbledon, but this season the two could meet in the semifinal of the Australian Open.
Federer is determined to win his 17th Grand Slam singles title this season, and going through his rival would make the journey even sweeter.
Nadal has been battling injuries in recent weeks, but he looks healthy in Melbourne and should not face too much trouble in getting to Federer for a semifinal matchup.
