WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Preview: Why Dolph Ziggler Might Actually Win the Title

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 18, 2012

This past Monday on Raw, John "Funkman" Laurinaitis admitted that he intends to screw over CM Punk in his title match with Dolph Ziggler at the Rumble.

Because he admitted his intentions and because of rumors of CM Punk facing Jericho for the title at WrestleMania, many people think Punk will retain. While this is likely, it is not out of the question for Ziggler to walk out as champion.

It would accomplish two things; advance the feud between Johnny Ace and CM Punk, as well as elevate Dolph Ziggler to main event status.

Ziggler's first World Title left his grasp only minutes later. Even if WWE puts the belt back on Punk at Elimination Chamber, it would still help Ziggler jump into the title picture on a more permanent basis.

Over the last two years, Dolph ZIggler has proven his dedication is only exceeded by his skill. He is one of the better mat wrestlers in WWE today due to his experience with wrestling in college. He has put on amazing matches with the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, all of whom have a ton of credibility in the ring.

WWE has done a good job of elevating the right people over the last couple of years, even if they did elevate a few too quickly.

It is no longer just Cena running the show in WWE. Even with all of the injuries to top stars like Christian and Alberto Del Rio, WWE has managed to have some of their better shows the past several weeks.

I am looking forward to what Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk do at the Rumble, and I can only hope that the match is as good as these two can put on without the feud involving Laurinaitis taking center stage.

What do you think? Does Ziggler have any chance of winning the title, or did WWE show their cards by having Johnny Ace admit his intentions?
