WWE News: WWE.com Article Lists Potential Reasons Why We Might Hate John Cena

Drake OzJan 16, 2012

John Cena is in the midst of arguably his most interesting feud in the last six or seven years.

Sure, the way Cena’s feud with Kane has played out has been far from great. However, the concept behind it (Kane’s attempts to get Cena to embrace the boos) is something that many fans have been calling for.

Why? Well, it’s quite simple really.

They hate Cena.

During this ongoing feud with Kane, the creative team has undoubtedly recognized that there is a big portion of fans who loathe Cena to their cores. What's more, the WWE is now even recognizing why that might be the case.

From WrestleNewz.com:

"

WWE’s website has a two-part article up asking why do fans cheer for John Cena and why do they chant that he sucks.

Here are a few reasons they list on why fans cheer Cena:

* He follows his own mantra

* He’s an inspiration

* He thinks of the children

* He likes Zack Ryder and he isn’t The Rock

It appears they have disabled the article on why fans chant Cena sucks but here are a few of the reasons they had listed:

* You’re tired of his shtick

* He’s Hulk Hogan all over again

* You think he can’t wrestle

* He hogs the spotlight

"

My initial reaction to this? Wow.

It’s one thing for the WWE to acknowledge the fact that Cena gets booed week in and week out, but it’s a whole different ballgame for the company to actually list out reasons why fans may hate Cena.

In essence, this WWE.com article is the company’s way of admitting that Cena has had the same old schtick for six years now, that Cena is Hogan 2.0, that Cena is not the best wrestler in the company and that Cena is almost always in the spotlight.

In other words, they know that the way Cena has been booked is a huge problem. However, they’re just letting that problem continue.

Seriously, this WWE.com article basically hit the nail on the head with all the problems that fans see with Cena, but the company still isn’t really doing all that much about it.

Sure, the creative team is finally addressing that Cena gets booed by incorporating it into a storyline, but this still has resulted in little to no change on Cena’s part. He’s still got the same gimmick going and he’s still appearing in the most important segments of Monday Night Raw.

Although this could all pay off if Cena’s character changes substantially or if he does the unthinkable and turns heel, that’s the only way this storyline will wind up meaning anything.

If Cena comes out of this angle with Kane and is still “Super Cena” (a.k.a. Hogan 2.0), all this WWE.com article is acknowledging is that Cena has a problem and they're failing to do anything about it.
