WWE SmackDown Analysis: 2 Huge Matches Announced and Bryan/Show Match Cut Short
Last night’s SmackDown was average in terms of excitement. Nothing really went on until the main event.
Sheamus beat Jinder Mahal like we all knew he would, Cody Rhodes was wasted in a match with Ezekiel Jackson and the Funkasaurus won in about 10 seconds, giving him no time to inject any sort of comedy into the role like he did on Monday Night Raw.
The main event, which pitted the Big Show against World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, was very exciting but I can’t help but think it would have been a little more convincing had head shots been allowed.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I know it is a tired, old argument but I have to bring it up one more time because there is one thing that confuses me.
How can head shots with a chair not be allowed but DDT’s on a chair can be?
Isn’t it the same thing, if not worse?
I just felt that back shots and leg shots to the Big Show would not be as effective as creating an imprint of his face in the steel. I feel that would have made the match a lot better and it would have made Big Show look more vulnerable which quite frankly, Daniel Bryan needs at the moment.
The match was cut short anyway as the lumbering 500-pounder ran right into AJ, knocking her out cold.
As Big Show sobbed next to her, Daniel Bryan looked mightily concerned and the crowd chanted “She’s Okay!”
I don’t understand why Big Show was ballin’! (MVP reference) I know he isn’t a heel at this time, but it’s a bit over the top isn’t it? He doesn’t even really know AJ in terms of storyline anyway, and it isn’t as if he killed her. He just knocked her over.
The match was over after this as we just saw footage of AJ being stretchered off and Daniel Bryan admonishing Big Show for being reckless and calling him a really naughty word.
It was certainly the highlight of the night and there isn’t a lot else to say about the show.
Wade Barrett came out and challenged Sheamus to a match next week on SmackDown, which has the potential to be absolutely epic. It has been a match I have been waiting on for a long time.
It is perfect. Both guys are becoming really big stars in the WWE and they are polar opposites at the moment, which makes for greater crowd interaction.
Excitement factor is at a 10 for me.
The other match announced was another World Heavyweight title match, but whether that will go ahead after last night's bout was abandoned is anybody’s guess.
Mark Henry wanted his rematch, and Teddy has apparently awarded it to the big fella. If the match does go ahead, it could well be a Triple Threat, though it could be postponed for the Royal Rumble.
It wouldn't make sense for the Big Show or Mark Henry to be involved in the Royal Rumble match, so a Triple Threat championship match makes sense.
In my closing comments, I’d like to look at Justin Gabriel vs. Heath Slater and ask about two things that irritated me:
Anyone notice how Justin Gabriel copied Kofi Kingston’s ring entrance?
Why was the 450 splash highlight edited?
