Tim Tebow's SportsCenter Proves ESPN's Shameless Coverage Is Here to Stay

Nicholas GossJan 12, 2012

ESPN's coverage of Tim Tebow has gotten so ridiculous that the network has embarrassed itself by airing a SportsCenter episode dedicated to the young Denver Broncos quarterback.

Everything this kid does is picked apart and analyzed so intricately that it makes watching SportsCenter unbearable. No one needs their performances analyzed that deeply, not Tebow, not LeBron James, not anybody.

There is no reason to give Tebow this much coverage when it's totally unneeded. First of all, he's not that great of a quarterback, even if ESPN's Skip Bayless repeatedly attempts to prove that he is every day on the network's show First Take.

Bayless has led the charge in making sure ESPN's hype machine is in full force when talking about Tim Tebow, and his annoying, laughable debates on First Take are so unwatchable that I would rather watch paint dry.

Let's face it, without an amazing defense in the second half of the season, the Broncos are currently looking at who they will select with a top five draft pick in April.

After a bad performance against the New England Patriots in Week 15, when the Broncos were beaten 41-23, Bayless still wouldn't relinquish his praise for Tebow.

Sure, Tebow is always a popular topic of discussion and is often a trending topic on Twitter, but there are many fascinating stories and players that deserve more coverage than ESPN gives them.

Why doesn't ESPN focus on some real stories that people actually want to learn more about from this NFL season?

Cam Newton had arguably the greatest season for a rookie quarterback ever, which was a tremendous accomplishment considering many thought he would fail after being selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 draft. Where is Newton's praise?

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino's record for passing yards in a single season, a record that stood for over 25 years, yet ESPN would much rather talk about Tebow and his many mediocre-at-best performances.

Aaron Rodgers had one of the greatest seasons ever for a quarterback, throwing 45 touchdowns with just six interceptions, but ESPN focuses on Tebow instead.

Tebow is a tremendous person and a role model for everyone to follow on and off the field, but I really feel bad for him because ESPN is putting so much more pressure on him than is needed. Thankfully Tebow handles pressure very well, because if he didn't ESPN would have ruined his career.

ESPN's insane amount of coverage on Tebow is unprofessional and makes the network look uninterested in more important stories involving the NFL that aren't getting the publicity they deserve.

If Tebow beats Tom Brady and the Patriots on Saturday for his second playoff wins in as many weeks, sports fans will be treated to an entire week of unbearable ESPN coverage.

Bill Belichick, please beat Tebow on Saturday night, and save sports fans everywhere from ESPN's obnoxious "analysts" that no one wants to listen to.

Even if Tim Tebow loses to the Patriots this week, I doubt ESPN will lessen its coverage of the Broncos quarterback much. Judging by the amount of coverage he gets win or lose, why would we expect anything else from the worldwide leader in sports?
