Michigan State Spartans Stay on Fire, Cruise Past Iowa 95-61

Dan VastaJun 5, 2018

The eighth-ranked Michigan State Spartans are arguably the hottest team in the country right now after demolishing the Iowa Hawkeyes 95-61.

Tom Izzo's crew have now won 15 in a row and they look like the early favorites in the Big Ten as they have improved to 4-0 in the conference.

Ohio State and Indiana may argue that they are the best, but right now the Spartans are playing as well as any team in the nation outside of perhaps your top three or four ranked teams.

Entering the game against the Hawkeyes, MSU was 14th in the country in scoring margin (16.2), 15th in field-goal percentage defensively (37.3) and an impressive fifth in the nation for rebound margin (10.3).

They held Iowa to 36.5 percent (23-63) and were led offensively by the scorching Draymond Green who went for 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The former Valpo transfer Brandon Wood continues to put up double figures as he went for 12 points on 5-7 shooting.

Many argue that Sparty's biggest weakness is the lack of a true star guard, but collectively they hit 10-18 threes, which included three from the "dancing bear" and two off of the bench from Austin Thornton.

The Spartans have to be extremely pleased with their play as they have caught the attention of one Joe Lundari in his latest ESPN Bracketology. Lunardi currently has the Spartans all the way up to a two seed, which has brought even more excitement to East Lansing.

Luckily, the schedule sets up nicely down the stretch of the season towards March, though Northwestern (Jan.14) and Michigan (Jan.17) will both be awaiting Michigan State in the coming weeks.

Purdue, Minnesota and Illinois are the three opponents afterwards. We'll see if Izzo's bunch can continue their torrid pace.
