Is Ricky Rubio Good Enough to Make the NBA All-Star Team?

Matt ShetlerJun 3, 2018

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie point guard Ricky Rubio's flash and brilliance has taken the NBA by storm early on during his rookie season.

He's shown that he's been well worth the wait.

Rubio's gained the confidence of Wolves coach Rick Adelman to the point that he plays pretty much the entire fourth quarter all of the time.

He's definitely shown that he belongs in the NBA and will be a fixture among highlight shows for the duration of his career.

But is he good enough to make the NBA All-Star team?

Talent-wise there is no doubting he's good enough to make the team, and he would certainly be exciting playing in it, but there's no chance he makes the team this season.

Quite simply, there's just way too much talent in the Western Conference for Rubio to be included this year.

While Rubio is young and exciting, his overall offensive game still needs a ton of work and likely will for a long time.

One thing Rubio is not is a good shooter.  He's actually not even a decent shooter.

For him to make the team as a rookie, he would have to put up some monster offensive numbers, and he doesn't have much chance at doing that.

The Timberwolves would also have to be a very good team to get a pair of All-Stars, since Kevin Love should be a virtual lock for the team.

Overall, Rubio would be an exciting addition to the Western Conference team, but it has little chance of happening this season.
