1 Song to Sum Up Every NHL Team's 2024-25 Season So Far
We're a month and some change into the 2024-25 NHL season, and storylines negative and positive are brewing across the league.
Alex Ovechkin is well on his way to smashing the all-time goals record this season, so long as Monday night's injury is something minor. Meanwhile, Macklin Celebrini called game with his first career overtime goal. The Leafs look especially focused so far, the Bruins do not, and the Predators are surprisingly struggling after huge offseason moves.
Sometimes, music is the only vehicle to truly express a feeling. So let's assign one song to each NHL team's season so far.
Anaheim Ducks

'The Kids Aren't Alright' by The Offspring
The Ducks are the second-worst team in the Pacific again, and I am requesting a vibe check on Trevor Zegras.
At least there are some good vibes headed into a brighter future, like Monday's 4-2 win over the Stars featuring a Cutter Gauthier goal.
Boston Bruins

'End of the Road' by Boyz II Men
This is one of the most dramatic, iconic ballads about the end of a relationship. It makes you think the relationship must have been something pretty amazing when it was good if the Boyz are saying they'd "rather be dead" than face reality without her. I'm not going that far, but it's not pleasant to watch the Boston Bruins and their negative-two shots per period these days.
Buffalo Sabres

'For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic' by Paramore
You were finished long before
We had even seen the start
Why don't you stand up? Be a man about it
I never wanted to say this
You never wanted to stay, well did you?
And then you just threw it away
Calgary Flames
4 of 32
'Livin' On A Prayer' by Bon Jovi
The Flames are clinging to their unexpectedly hot start for dear life, but they haven't let it completely slip through the cracks yet. Just like Tommy and Gina, they still have a chance.
Carolina Hurricanes
5 of 32
'Still D.R.E.' by Dr. Dre
Since the last time you heard from me, I lost some friends
Well, me and Snoop, we dippin' again
He's triple platinum, doing 50 a week
Chicago Blackhawks
6 of 32
'Stop' by the Spice Girls
Stop right now! Thank you very much! What are you doing with these line combinations and why are you making Connor Bedard suffer?
Colorado Avalanche
7 of 32
'Everything Is Alright' by Motion City Soundtrack
Tell me that you're alright
"Yeah, everything is alright"
Oh, please tell me that you're alright
"Yeah, everything is alright"
Columbus Blue Jackets

'I'm Still Standing' by Elton John
The Blue Jackets have more-or-less ended up where we thought they'd be at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, but they keep showing us they aren't giving up on a night-to-night basis. The spirit of their strong start—and their solid shot selection—is still there.
Dallas Stars
9 of 32
'What was I made for' by Billie Eilish
Are the Dallas Stars built to be the best regular season team of the past few years, or can they translate that consistency to a Cup run this year?
Detroit Red Wings
10 of 32
'Bad' by Michael Jackson
I'm bad!
I'm bad!
I'm really, really bad!
Edmonton Oilers
11 of 32
'My Way' by Frank Sinatra
On any given night it feels like the Oilers are going to score a million goals and win the Cup...or never score a goal again and miss the playoffs. Either way, skill plays, offensive prowess, and special teams are the name of their game—and they're unwilling to budge.
Florida Panthers
12 of 32
'Miami' by Will Smith
I only came for two days of playing
But every time I come I always wind up stayin'
Miami the city that keeps the roof blazin'
Los Angeles Kings
13 of 32
'Change' by Taylor Swift
We're getting stronger now
Find things they never found
They might be bigger
But we're faster and never scared
You can walk away, say we don't need this
But there's something in your eyes
Says we can beat this
Minnesota Wild
14 of 32
'Let Me Love You' by Mario
You should let me love you, Minnesota Wild. Please be legit this time.
Montreal Canadiens
15 of 32
'American Boy' by Estelle ft. Kanye West
I just met this five-foot-seven guy who's just my type
Nashville Predators
16 of 32
'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2
Maybe the Predators should've gone to that concert after all...
New Jersey Devils
17 of 32
'You're So Last Summer' by Taking Back Sunday
The Devils aren't bad by any means, but they're not quite as good or unflappable as we thought they'd be last summer. Leave it to New Jersey's own Taking Back Sunday to put it bluntly.
New York Islanders
18 of 32
'Nothing Changes' by PUP
Thought I could fill the void
But if I'm being honest with myself
Nothing ever changes, no nothing ever changes
Thought I could just crank up the noise
And maybe it would drown it out
But nothing ever changes, no nothing ever changes
New York Rangers
19 of 32
'Just The Way You Are' by Bruno Mars
If perfect's what you're searching for, then just stay the same
People tend to overreact about the Rangers, perhaps in part because it's Igor Shesterkin's contract year. They've had an unsavory loss or two, sure, but they'll be just fine when the playoffs roll around. Be for real.
Ottawa Senators
20 of 32
'Follow Through' by Gavin Degraw
And I, all I really want is you
You to stick around
I'll see you every day
But you have to follow through
Philadelphia Flyers
21 of 32
'I'm Just A Kid' by Simple Plan
Pittsburgh Penguins
22 of 32
'How's It Gonna Be' by Third Eye Blind
I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore
Before you take a swing
I wonder what are we fightin' for
When I say out loud
I wonder is there anything
I'm going to miss
Lightning vs. Penguins tonight by the way!
San Jose Sharks
23 of 32
'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance
Maybe they'll leave you alone
Seattle Kraken
24 of 32
'So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish' by A Perfect Circle
Yeah, it's not the Kraken's year, and that's OK.
St. Louis Blues
25 of 32
'Everything You Want' by Vertical Horizon
You're waiting for someone
To put you together
You're waiting for someone to push you away
There's always another wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say
Tampa Bay Lightning
26 of 32
'Always Be My Baby' by Mariah Carey
Don't you know, you can't escape me?
Toronto Maple Leafs
27 of 32
'State Of Grace' by Taylor Swift
This is a state of grace
This is the worthwhile fight
Love is a ruthless game
Unless you play it good and right
These are the hands of fate
You're my Achilles' heel
This is the golden age of something good and right and real
Utah Hockey Club
28 of 32
'No Such Thing' by John Mayer
'Welcome to the real world,' she said to me
Condescendingly, 'take a seat'
The Utah Hockey Club has come back down to Earth after its strong franchise start. You could say it's having its "Welcome to the show, kid" moment.
Vancouver Canucks
29 of 32
'No One Knows' by Queens of the Stone Age
Can anyone quite figure out where the Canucks are at or where they're headed? At least Elias Pettersson is awake and there's no need to panic with a 9-5-3 record in a playoff spot, but things feel precarious in Canucksland.
Vegas Golden Knights
30 of 32
'Sacrifices' by Drake
I made sacrifices, I've been ballin' ever since
We seein' so many blessings, s--t don't make no sense
Winnipeg Jets
32 of 32
'The Best' by Tina Turner
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
The Jets are a well-oiled monster, proficient at every facet of the game in an all-around way no other team quite achieves. They became the fastest team to 15 wins in NHL history, and they deserved every win.
