Philadelphia Eagles Don't Scramble, Stick with Andy Reid and Michael Vick

Matthew YazoJun 7, 2018

Andy Reid is staying put. The Eagles are sticking with him. Or are stuck with him. One way or the other, Reid isn't going anywhere and such sentiments could literally be taken well...literally.

OK, OK, all jokes aside, Reid is a hard man to move.

He's won games in a town that's used to complaining about winning games. And he's taken the blame in a town that loves to dish it out no matter what.

So? What's left to do as an Eagles fan other than chant "one more year" in some half-baked political fashion?

Watch the 76ers?

Really? Has it come to that?

Let's get grounded here for one moment and remember that the Eagles are more contingent now on Michael Vick than ol' raggedy Andy.

Vick was the one with the $10 billion contract that was given to him after a season of splurge and prowess that we haven't seen since, well, Vick like 10 years ago, or whatever it was.

Funny, he got offered a big-time contract then too.

But let's not jump up and down just yet over money. These were in fact the Philadelphia Eagles, a team with little tradition aside from a very tenacious and vicious fan base.

This was a town that loved the rough and tumble side of things, at least that's they way they made it seem. Or at least that's the way the media made it seem. And in the end, what's the difference, right?

The debate or conversation here, however, isn't about whether or not Reid is or is not calling enough running plays. Or whether or not Vick is questionable or doubtful or day-to-day. The question for the Eagles is: where's the defense?

OK, again, I know this isn't a novel thought but it is still one that must be addressed because it wasn't in any of the press conferences that I saw. Then again, I'm not necessarily tuned into the NFL Network 24/7...more like 23/6...and then, well, who knows! Maybe I missed that part of the interview with the Eagles brass where they stood up on all talons and said, "Yes, our defense was pretty weird if not downright mediocre this year, but we promise to tackle that in the off season."

Please, if I missed this part of the story, inform me.

Somehow, however, I don't think I did.

I think the story was and still is about how Reid had one year remaining on his contract and wasn't going to budge. I think the story was still about Vick and his ribs and ankle and feet and helmet and the sweater that he chose to wear for his X-mas card pictures.

The offseason story is still not the sad absence of Jim Johnson.

And that isn't the story, then there's nothing left to say except: "One more year! One more year!"
