Photo: Zach Wilson Takes Selfie with Fan Who Apologized for How Jets Treated Him

Zach Wilson wasn't the most popular quarterback for New York Jets fans as he failed to live up to expectations as the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft, but he at least made amends with one ahead of Sunday's game between his old team and his new team, the Denver Broncos.

As Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported, one fan at MetLife Stadium apologized to Wilson for the way fans treated him during his stint in the Big Apple.

That fan also earned a selfie with the Broncos backup:

New York was coming off 10 straight playoff-less seasons when it selected Wilson at No. 2 overall in 2021.

It was a difficult situation to walk into, but it also made him the face of the franchise and a source of hope for a large fanbase. But those expectations from hope-filled fans did not lead to impressive production.

Wilson went 12-21 as a starter while completing 57 percent of his passes and throwing for 23 touchdowns to 25 interceptions across three different seasons with the Jets. Head coach Robert Saleh benched the signal-caller for Tim Boyle last season, which is surely not what the team envisioned when it drafted him.

New York had largely given up on the Wilson era even before last season started considering it added Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2023 campaign, but the future Hall of Famer suffered an Achilles injury in the opener.

That put Wilson back under the spotlight, but things once again didn't go well.

He earned some ridicule from fans and didn't land a second contract with the team that eventually traded him to the Broncos before this season. He is now the backup for rookie Bo Nix, while the Jets are hoping to compete for a playoff spot behind Rodgers.

Having an all-time great like Rodgers under center surely puts Jets fans in a better mood, and one of them was upbeat enough to have quite the interaction with Wilson on Sunday.
