Jason Kelce Rumors: NBC, CBS, ESPN 'Likeliest Landing Spots' After NFL Retirement

Scott PolacekMar 4, 2024

Jason Kelce is retiring from the NFL as a player, but he will reportedly have no shortage of options if he wants to work in the media.

According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, NBC, CBS and ESPN are "the likeliest landing spots" if he prefers to work on an NFL studio show. Marchand noted the Philadelphia Eagles legend has already held discussions with CBS.

This comes after Kelce made his retirement announcement Monday during a press conference.

A transition to media would be a natural one for the 36-year-old given the success of the New Heights podcast he does with his brother, Travis. He has also been one of the faces of the NFL in recent seasons, which is quite an accomplishment for an offensive lineman.

He retires after a 13-year career that was spent entirely with the Eagles after they selected him in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft. Kelce won a Super Bowl and was a seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time First-Team All-Pro selection.

The future Hall of Famer became the gold standard for the center position in the league and didn't miss a game in any of his final nine seasons.

As for the potential move to media, Marchand highlighted the convenience of CBS' Sunday pregame show in New York City and NBC's location in Stamford, Conn., for someone who is based in Philadelphia.

That gives the networks a leg up over Fox, which is based on the West Coast.

CBS also has what Marchand deemed "a wide-open desk" with Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms as free agents.

J.J. Watt was one of CBS' most recent additions after he retired, and he was one of those who reacted to Kelce's announcement:

Another thing looming over the potential battle for Kelce is the pathway it would create for Travis once the Kansas City Chiefs tight end also retires. The Kelce brothers clearly work well together on their podcast and could be a tandem on a studio show or another media property down the line.

Travis Kelce has been a longtime household name among football fans, but he has become far more famous of late thanks to his relationship with music star Taylor Swift. The possibility of adding him would surely be an enticing one for most media properties that work with the NFL.

For now, it will be Jason Kelce heading into retirement and perhaps a media venture. But it wouldn't be a surprise if the brothers were working together at some point.
