WWE: Randy Orton's Injury Means The Undertaker Needs to Return to SmackDown Now

Nathan GieseJan 4, 2012

Over the past few months, SmackDown has suffered a great number of injuries that have affected their programming as of late.  Those injuries are causing an uproar as to the direction of the blue brand, mostly due to the fact that those injuries may have forced Creative to jump the gun on a few story lines.

Christian, Mark Henry and, most recently, Randy Orton have all suffered some sort of injury in the past three-to-four months.

Christian's injury has forced him out of action completely, but he is expected to return soon.

Mark Henry's leg injury has forced him to perform on a limited basis, but he is still able to compete when called upon.  However, they are doing the best they can to make it so he doesn't have to compete very often.

Orton's injury is a little more peculiar.  He took a tumble down the stairs during his match with Wade Barrett last week and is reportedly out for an unspecified amount of time.  Clearly, this could be one of two things:

  1. It is a story set up to give Orton some time off to recuperate from some lingering injuries he may have in order to be totally healthy for the stretch run towards WrestleMania.
  2. His injury is legitimate, and there really is no timetable set right now in order to preserve his status going into the Road to WrestleMania.

Whatever the case may be, these injuries affect more than just the stars who are suffering from them.

Sheamus and Barrett currently have nothing going on due to the fact that the last feuds they had with Christian and Orton, respectively, were taken out of action before the feuds could really be concluded.

Henry's injury may or may not have forced Creative to push Daniel Bryan's cash-in of his Money in the Bank contract on Big Show to win the world heavyweight championship.  Now, Bryan and Show have entered into a "will-he-or-won't-he-turn-heel?" feud that could go a number of ways.

However you look at it, SmackDown is down a number of high-profile superstars.

Orton and Henry have been carrying SmackDown for most of 2011.  Entering 2012 without either of those guys being a major player is not the way Vince McMahon and co. wanted to start the Road to WrestleMania.

With all of the star power lacking from Friday nights right now, this is the perfect time to bring back The Undertaker and let him become a presence before February or March, which is the approximate time we expect him back.

I'm not saying the "Deadman" has to perform on a weekly basis, but the least he could do is put the rest of the roster on notice that he's looking for his next opponent to extend his streak.

Have him sit in on a couple matches.  Have him cut out the lights on a number of people to mess with their minds and make them think he's chosen them.

I don't care what it is that he does, but The Undertaker needs to return to SmackDown as soon as possible.

At his old age, The Undertaker doesn't need to prove anything in the ring on a random Friday night.  What he does need to do, however, is build up his potential last match a little more in the momentum department, unlike his last encounter with Triple H.

While I loved the match he and the "Game" put on last year at the show of shows, the whole build-up felt a little out of nowhere.  Both men returned on the same night, and that's basically how it all transpired.

This year should be something different.  It needs to be something special, especially if it is, indeed, his final match of his career.

Orton, Christian and Henry will be at full health at some point, but it's uncertain just when all three will be healthy at the same time.

To pass the time while we wait, why not bring back one of the most popular superstars in the history of the WWE to spark up the interest for the time being?

I know I'd be all for it.
