NBA Rumors: Victor Oladipo Waived by Grizzlies After Trade from Rockets
After being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies from the Houston Rockets last week, shooting guard Victor Oladipo has been waived, per The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania.
Oladipo, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 draft, has not played yet this season due to a knee injury. The 31-year-old is in the second year of a two-year, $18.2 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Last season with the Miami Heat, Oladipo put up 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and three rebounds per game in 42 games.
Oladipo showed signs of stardom during his time with the Indiana Pacers, putting up a career-high 23.1 points per game in 2017-18, but injuries have slowed his progress in recent years.
Since the 2017-18 season, Oladipo has not had a season where he played at least 50 games and has had just one season, last year, where he managed to play more than 40 games. With his current injury, Oladipo is unlikely to play much of the season if a team does decide to pick him up.
The Grizzlies had a relatively quiet trade deadline day, making a move to acquire Yuta Watanabe from the Phoenix Suns as part of a three-team trade. On Wednesday, Memphis traded center Xavier Tillman to the Boston Celtics in exchange for two second-round picks.
Riddled with injuries and missing their star Ja Morant, the Grizzlies sit in 13th place in the Western Conference at 18-33 and a playoff run seems unlikely. With more cap space available and a handful of picks, Memphis could look to bolster its roster in the offseason.
