WWE News: Original and Future Plans for Brodus Clay's Return Revealed

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

Forget the “It Begins” videos—the biggest mystery in the WWE at the moment is the status of Brodus Clay.

It was so long ago that he was originally supposed to make his “debut” (even though it’s actually a return) that I honestly can’t remember when his return was initially going to happen or when those videos hyping his return started airing.

Like a sucker, I thought that Clay would actually come back on this Monday’s Raw, but naturally, that didn’t happen.

So, just what in the heck is going on with Clay?

Here’s the latest on original and future plans for Clay, courtesy of PWInsider.com (via WrestlingInc.com)

"

Brodus Clay was written into the script for Monday's RAW. He would have had a squash match against a local talent, but during the day, the decision was made to scratch the segment. This is not the first time that this has happened with Clay.

WWE will be going with the storyline of Brodus being pissed at being pushed back so many times that he's even angrier than before. Officials do want to get Clay on TV as soon as possible to establish him as a monster. They wanted him to go into the Royal Rumble as one of the top big guys but it remains to be seen if he will debut before then.

"

The WWE is walking a really thin line here between we fans wanting to see Clay come back and we being completely indifferent to his return.

Initially, I had really high expectations for Clay because he’s better than most big men that come around, with a unique look, surprising athleticism and pretty impressive mic skills. But the longer I wait to see him return, the less I care about him.

In all honesty, I think there are only two saving graces for Clay: Either he returns within the next week or two and is immediately placed into a high-profile feud, or he debuts at the Royal Rumble and has a Kane-esque performance in the 30-Man Rumble match. I’m talking five-plus eliminations, a lengthy stay in the match and an appearance in the final five competitors.

If Clay doesn’t come back and make an impact similar to that, then he’s not going to be the next Mark Henry. He’s going to be just another big guy in a long line of big men that have come through the WWE.

I really don’t want that to be the case because Clay actually is very talented, but if he doesn’t debut by the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, I’ll officially stop caring.
