NFL Teams That Should Be All-In on Brock Bowers After 2024 Draft Declaration

Jan 4, 2024

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers made it official this week, declaring for the 2024 NFL draft.

A prospect who has looked NFL-ready for multiple seasons, Bowers has the versatile skill set to dominate as both an in-line (Y) and flex (F) weapon at the pro level and could warrant a top-10 pick.

He's far and away the premier tight end in the class and a talent who could rapidly become one of football's best in the correct environment. Let's dive into a few teams that could make him their headlining selection come April's draft, despite glaring needs at other spots.

Los Angeles Chargers

Draft Slot Heading into Week 18: No. 6

After the Los Angeles Chargers took wide receiver Quentin Johnston with their Day 1 pick in 2023, don't be shocked to see them add Bowers to an already deep arsenal of skill players.

While it's unclear who will be pushing the buttons for Los Angeles come draft day after the firings of head coach Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco, Bowers would immediately garner a plentiful helping of targets from quarterback Justin Herbert.

Football is about forcing mismatches. While the team could be in a spot to take an offensive tackle to pair with Rashawn Slater, Bowers would immediately create space for others at a variety of depths and serve as a de facto stepping stool to lift the Chargers toward their lofty offensive ceiling.

Washington Commanders

Eric Bieniemy

Draft Slot Heading into Week 18: No. 2

Similarly to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Washington Commanders will feature a long list of new faces in new places come draft weekend following head coach Ron Rivera's expected firing.

If it's Eric Bieniemy taking the reins, the use of a dynamic tight end is synonymous with the offensive coordinator's architecture. While comparing Bowers to Travis Kelce (who Bieniemy spent five seasons with in Kansas City) would be overzealous at this point, Bowers' potential impact inside a talented Commanders skill group could be similar to that of the top tight ends in football.

Although Washington could stand pat at No. 2 overall (should Week 18 shake out that way) and take a swing on Caleb Williams or Drake Maye to completely revamp the organization, trading back a few spots with a QB-hungry team, garnering more picks and taking Bowers would add a multi-faceted contributor to an organization with immense roster holes on either side of the ball.

New England Patriots

Draft Slot Heading into Week 18: No. 3

The expectation is that the New England Patriots will add a quarterback. But, should it spend top-five capital if QBs Williams and Maye are off the board and the team isn't sold on fellow signal-caller Jayden Daniels?

While the talent under center in the 2024 class is deep, surroundings matter most when thrusting a rookie signal-caller into the fire of leading an organization. See Bryce Young in Carolina.

The success at the quarterback spot correlates with a player's immediate surroundings, and a talent like Bowers would instantly become New England's most dynamic offensive weapon. With both Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki expected to hit free agency, Bowers would carry a heavy workload from Week 1 onward as a multi-level threat with excellent juice after the catch.

New York Jets

Aaron Rodgers

Draft Slot Heading into Week 18: No. 8

If the New York Jets are all-in on Aaron Rodgers spearheading the offense come September, an addition like Bowers could elevate the unit's ceiling tremendously.

There are still massive holes along the offensive line, but outside wide receiver Garrett Wilson, New York lacks any true threat in space.

During Rodgers' time in Green Bay, Packers brass repeatedly failed to draft game-changing talent on the perimeter. While Rodgers' rapport with Davante Adams masked the Packers' lack of separation-creators as a whole, selecting Bowers in the top 10 this spring would be a boost for both the now and the future in New York.

Tennessee Titans

Draft Slot Heading into Week 18: No. 7

This hasn't been the season many expected for a Tennessee Titans team that won the AFC South in two of the last three campaigns.

With questions remaining under center despite flashes from second-round pick Will Levis, Tennessee has an aging roster with fresh legs needed in a variety of spots. With the team slated to pick seventh heading into Week 18, adding a dynamic athlete such as Bowers to make things that much easier on Levis wouldn't be bad business.

Not only would the Georgia product provide a friendly face over the middle of the field, but Bowers would also assist in the run game as a further extension of the offensive line.

Now, he's by no means similar to his former teammate (and Pittsburgh Steelers tight end) Darnell Washington in relocating 5-tech defensive ends, but with running back Tyjae Spears expected to see an uptick in volume if Derrick Henry were to depart via free agency, Bowers' impact would be felt in multiple phases.

Aligning in 12 personnel (1 RB/2 TEs) with Bowers alongside Chigoziem Okonkwo (4.52-second 40-yard dash) would force mismatches across the field, as well.
