Dodgers Prospects Who Can Still Make an MLB Impact in 2023
The Los Angeles Dodgers are undergoing something of a youth movement this season, with Miguel Vargas and James Outman both seeing regular time in the starting lineup, while Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone and Michael Grove have all seen time in the rotation.
With one of the deepest farm systems in baseball, there is plenty more exciting young talent climbing the organizational ladder, and they could welcome at least a few more rookies to the mix before the season is over.
Ahead, we've highlighted three prospects who can still make an MLB impact in 2023, focusing solely on players who have not yet appeared in the majors this year.
Prospects who have already seen MLB action: 2B Michael Busch, OF Jonny Deluca, RHP Bobby Miller, RHP Ryan Pepiot, RHP Gavin Stone
LHP Bryan Hudson
1 of 3
After seven seasons in the Chicago Cubs' farm system, left-hander Bryan Hudson signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers during the offseason.
The 6'8", 220-pound southpaw began his pro career as a starter before moving to the bullpen in 2021, and he is enjoying a breakout season at Triple-A with a 2.17 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 51 strikeouts in 29 innings.
The 26-year-old is not currently on the 40-man roster, and the Dodgers already have Caleb Ferguson, Alex Vesia and Victor González as left-handed options out of the bullpen. But if he continues to miss bats at Triple-A, he will eventually find his way onto the MLB roster.
IF Devin Mann
2 of 3
Devin Mann was teammates with pitchers Reid Detmers and Bobby Miller at the University of Louisville before going in the fifth round of the 2018 draft, and he has shown some nice extra-base power and defensive versatility while rising the minor league ranks.
The 26-year-old is currently playing at Triple-A Oklahoma City where he is hitting .318/.422/.568 with 24 doubles, eight home runs and 47 RBI in 54 games, and he has seen time defensively at third base (19), first base (15), second base (11), left field (3) and shortstop (1).
Mann is hitting .500/.563/.900 with four doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI in 48 plate appearances since the beginning of June, and if he keeps swinging a hot bat, it's only a matter of time before he gets the call.
OF Andy Pages
3 of 3
Signed out of Cuba during the 2017 international signing period, Andy Pages has some of the best raw power of any prospect in the minors.
The 22-year-old hit 57 home runs in 2021 and 2022 combined, though his impressive power numbers were accompanied by 272 strikeouts in 252 games across the High-A and Double-A levels.
He hit .284/.430/.495 with an improved 22.5 percent strikeout rate and 16 extra-base hits in 33 games back at Double-A Tulsa to open the year, and he was recently promoted to Triple-A to move him one step closer to the big leagues.
With a rocket arm and elite power, Pages fits the bill of a prototypical right fielder, but he could provide an in-house boost in left field during the second half of the season.
