2012 NFL Draft Projections: Likely Destinations for Elite Skill Players
The 2012 draft class is loaded with elite skill players, from NFL-ready quarterbacks, to bruising running backs, to explosive wide receivers.
Yesterday, I wrote about possible destinations for the draft's top quarterbacks. Today, let's look at potential landing spots for the best wide receiver prospects available.
Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State
Blackmon, who is unquestionably the best receiver on the board, will be a top-10 pick this spring.
He would be a great fit for the Carolina Panthers, who will have either the eighth or ninth pick, depending on the result of a coin toss.
Cam Newton could use some more weapons and its scary to think about what he could do with Blackmon at his disposal.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Jacksonville Jaguars also desperately need an elite receiver to pair with their young quarterback, Blaine Gabbert.
The Jaguars are sitting right in front of Carolina with the seventh pick. I would be surprised if they pass on Blackmon.
Michael Floyd, Notre Dame
The 6'3", 224-pound Floyd has been moving up draft boards recently. With his size, he will a matchup nightmare for most cornerbacks in the NFL.
I expect him to go in the 10-15 range.
The Seattle Seahawks will have either the 11th or 12th pick, depending the result of their coin toss with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Regardless of which pick they get, the Seahawks would be wise to pick up Floyd. The Sydney Rice signing proved to be a bust and their leading receiver this season was some dude named Doug Baldwin.
Seattle needs some more weapons if they want to compete with San Francisco in the NFC West. Drafting Floyd would be a big step in the right direction.
Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina
Jeffery has elite size (6'4", 229 pounds), but he's a bit raw. He needs to improve his route running and his production this season was less than ideal.
Jeffery's ejection from the Capitol One Bowl is also discouraging, but none of this will stop teams from spending a first round pick on him.
The Chicago Bears could use another wide receiver and they would be ecstatic if Jeffery falls to them at number 19.
However, the New York Jets might snatch him with the 16th pick. Either way, Jeffery probably isn't falling into the twenties.
