Outback Bowl 2012: Sizzling Michigan State and Georgia NFL Prospects

David DanielsJan 2, 2012

Georgia versus Michigan State in the Outback Bowl is just an opening act to the 2012 Rose Bowl.  But if you aren’t a Bulldog or Spartan fan, the future NFL players in the game still give you a reason to pay attention.  Here are the top five pro prospects in this year’s Outback Bowl.

5. Brandon Boykin (CB, Georgia)

At 5’10”, 183 pounds, senior cornerback Brandon Boykin may be undersized, but he has plenty of talent.  The Bulldogs DB intercepted three passes each of the last three seasons.  He is currently a mid-round prospect.

4. Kirk Cousins (QB, Michigan St.)

Kirk Cousins may not project as a franchise quarterback at the next level, but he can still have a long and successful career as a backup.  Cousins passed for 3,016 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season for the Spartans.  In two games against the talented Wisconsin defense, he managed to throw for 571 yards and six touchdowns compared to just one interception.

3. Ben Jones (C, Georgia)

6’3”, 316-pound center Ben Jones is currently a second-round prospect in the 2012 draft class.  He could’ve entered the draft last season, but he chose to return to Georgia instead and they voted him Team MVP

2. Jerel Worthy (DT, Michigan St.)

Jerel Worthy doesn’t pop on the stat sheet because he demands so much attention. The 6’3”, 310-pound defensive tackle is a late-first, early-second-round prospect because of his ability to demand a double team.  While he’s better fit to play in a 4-3 scheme, he could potentially play defensive end or even nose tackle in a 3-4.

1. Cordy Glenn (G, Georgia)

At 6’5” and 348 pounds, Cordy Glenn is an absolute monster.  The mid-to-late first-round prospect played offensive tackle at Georgia, but will most likely slide over to guard in the NFL.
