Arsenal Transfer News: Lukas Podolski Would Be Perfect Fit for Gunners

Robin van Persie cannot be the only legitimate scoring threat for Arsenal if the Gunners plan on making a run in the English Premier League. He scored his 16th goal in a 1-0 victory on Saturday against Queens Park Rangers.

The next closest goal scorer on the club is Gervinho with four goals. It’s time to provide van Persie with some more fire power up front by acquiring Lukas Podolski on transfer.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker said that the Gunners should target Podolski.

"Of course I’ve been on the phone to him. He is a powerful, great player, especially for the national team," said Mertesacker. 

"He has scored a lot of goals, is a good striker with a very good finish. His left foot is unbelievable and I am a fan of him."

Seemingly every time Arsenal has been in a pickle, van Persie bails them out of trouble. He’s been a major part to why the Gunners sit in fourth place in the table.

But there is going to be a point in time where van Persie doesn’t show the type of class he’s been showcasing. That’s not saying that what he’s doing isn’t to be expected because he’s one of the best strikers in not only the Premier League but in the world, but one would think that he would cool down just a bit.

Mikel Arteta has three goals, Theo Walcott has two and Yossi Benayoun has tallied a goal this season.

Arsenal has some flaws on the defensive side of the ball so they will need to solidify their inability to put balls in the back of the net as soon as possible. 

While I would prefer Loic Remy of Marseille, that doesn’t seem like an option at this point. If it could be down the line then Arsenal would be fools not to jump on the amazing 24-year-old striker.

Podolski would be the next best option in my mind. He is still only 26 years old, and he still provides quality goal-scoring ability as he has shown with his 43 career goals with the German National Team.

Bringing Podolski to Arsenal is even more paramount since Ivory Coast star Gervinho and Chamakh could play in the African Nations Cup. Arsene Wegner is attempting to get permission for them to report late.

Arsenal needs to bolster their scoring capabilities by adding Podolski. They need a secondary scoring option, especially if Gervinho misses time due to the African Nations Cup.

The Gunners started the season horribly but have rallied since. They find themselves near the top of the table, but they won’t finish in the top four of the standings if they can’t add another striker to help van Persie out.  

He can only carry an entire team for so long.
