John Tavares: It's Time to Start the Superstar Talks

The John Tavares the New York Islanders were hoping would come from a first overall pick is here, and he's looking to make sure everyone knows it. 

Tavares is on a roll the past four games, scoring three goals and five points.  These stats don't seem as mind-blowing as the title of this article suggests, but this string of play is a long time coming.

Tavares is playing like a seasoned veteran, pushing through his recent scoring troubles with his excellent all-around play. 

He has added some bulk since first coming out of juniors (Oshawa Generals and then the London Knights), and is using that increased size to gain position on the boards and in front of the net. 

His positioning is way above average, but it's how he's using that positioning to enhance his vision on the ice that's the most welcomed addition to his play.

Tavares' vision on the ice is probably the best facet of his game (with arguments to be made about his skating ability), and is comparable to some of the best playmakers in the game right now.

He sees things on the ice that most players, especially defenders, either don't see as quickly as he does, or just don't see at all. 

His 17 assists aren't spectacular, but from the looks of Tavares' play, they're bound to be on the rise.  This is really what makes Tavares stand out, but that's not to put down his scoring ability, though.

Tavares has an above average shot with a quick release.  He has 12 goals on the year, and the same that was said about his assist numbers can be said about his goal tally.

With all this being said, look out for No. 91; he'll be the talk of the league very soon.  I feel Tavares should be already, but in time he'll get the attention he deserves. 

Tavares will be one of the biggest factors in bringing the Islanders out of the NHL's basement and transforming them into serious contenders.
