Brock Lesnar: How Retirement Affects His Legal Ties to UFC
Alistair Overeem sent Brock Lesnar into retirement via a first-round TKO at UFC 141 on Friday night. Lesnar has been rumored to a possible return to World Wrestling Entertainment, but his legal ties with UFC might not allow him to move on to something as quickly as he expects.
UFC President Dana White believes they will figure out the situation.
"“When a guy decides he wants to retire, you let him do it. This is not, 'Go hit a ball with a stick for the next two or three years on your way out.' This is the real deal, guys. We'll figure it out."
"
Believe it or not, Lesnar has been great for the UFC despite his questioned departures from the WWE and now UFC.
Lesnar only participated in eight UFC fights, but he was a driving force into how popular the sport has become. White has to be having some mixed emotions about the situation.
When he was destroyed by Cain Velazquez at UFC 121 he had a face-to-face meeting with The Undertaker after the bout. White quickly laid those rumors to rest.
""Lesnar is still under contract with the UFC...he is not going to wrestle in the WWE. He cannot wrestle, box or fight anywhere else."
"
He has had one fight since his Velazquez pounding. If that was the case, then maybe it will be the case now. There is a reason why contracts are signed.
Everyone seems to think that Lesnar and the WWE reuniting once again is a given. WWE has a mystery surprise that will take place on Jan. 2, 2012. Lesnar seems like the latest favorite option by fans across the world.
Not so fast.
Lesnar will probably end up in the WWE given all he has done for the popularity of UFC, but there are still legal ties to be wrestled out, so it’s not set in stone. If he is the mystery man, they need to figure it out sooner rather than later.
