UFC 141 Results: Why Brock Lesnar Should Come Back to the UFC

Matt SaccaroDec 31, 2011

There are two words that explain why Brock Lesnar should come back to the UFC: Frank Mir

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar (who himself is a former UFC heavyweight champion) still have unfinished business; they have an unresolved trilogy.

The pair first met at UFC 81 all the way back in 2008.

Lesnar immediately took Mir down and was en route to smashing his head open, but a questionable stoppage by Steve Mazzagatti to warn Lesnar about strikes to the back of the head let Mir recover and shortly after he caught the green Lesnar (it was his second fight) in a knee bar.

The two would meet again at UFC 100, this time the fight was to unify Lesnar's UFC heavyweight championship with Mir's interim title.

This fight played out a bit differently. The fight actually made it out of the first round, for starters.

In the second, Mir was landing some excellent strikes that had Lesnar looking frustrated (foreshadowing?) and scared...until Mir threw an ill-advised knee which Lesnar used to take Mir to the canvas.

Over the next few moments, Lesnar proceeded to paint Mir's face red with his own blood; he would earn a TKO victory and then would give one of the most infamous post-fight speeches of all time.

What did he talk about? Horse shoes being shoved up Mir's anatomy, how he hated the sponsor and how he might sleep with his wife.

Obviously, Mir wasn't thrilled and he eventually said that he wanted Lesnar to be "the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injures."

Because of all the bad blood and history involved, this fight needs to happen.

Furthermore, it's likely one of the easiest fights at heavyweight for Lesnar right now. It'll give Lesnar a chance to retire with a win and ride off into the sunset, and it'll give Mir a chance to avenge his embarrassing loss to Lesnar and win the trilogy.
