Brock Lesnar Retires: How Will Lesnar Be Remembered?

G DDec 31, 2011

When news broke that Brock Lesnar would be granted the opportunity to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the world became skeptical and rightfully so.

Even more so when Lesnar was submitted in his Octagon debut just one minute and thirty seconds into Round 1 against Frank Mir at UFC 81.

But, Lesnar would turn it around, making a powerful statement on his way to the top of the heavyweight division.

The former WWE superstar would plow through Heath Herring in his very next fight by way of unanimous decision as he earned himself a premature shot at the heavyweight title holder, Randy Couture.

Premature or not, Lesnar proved his critics wrong and in a sense made UFC President Dana White out to be a genius as he finished off Couture in the second frame at UFC 91.

Lesnar's legacy would continue to grow as he got revenge on Frank Mir in his very next fight before displaying a come-from-behind victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 116.

But, it began to pour down on Lesnar's glorious sunshine of a career as he would be stripped of his heavyweight title in a knockout loss to Cain Velasquez.

Lesnar would take off a full year to battle a disease often referred to as diverticulitis before making a return to UFC 141 to take on UFC newcomer Alistair Overeem.

And, once again it was Lesnar who was on the receiving end of a beat down, as Overeem unloaded vicious strikes and knees which resulted not only in a Lesnar defeat but his retirement as well.

With Lesnar officially retired, it's hard not to wonder how the once undisputed champion turned fraud will be remembered as.

When truly examining his career inside the Octagon, we'll see a fighter who posted a lackluster 4-3 record.

Taking nothing away from what Lesnar brought to the table, he was unable to defeat the two most important opponents of his career in Velasquez and Overeem.

Many feel Lesnar has done enough to be remembered as one of the greatest of all time while others feel his stardom was a result of his press-line name.

So, how will Brock Lesnar be remembered?
