WWE SmackDown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryDec 30, 2011

The Blue Brand came through one more time in 2011! WWE SmackDown was a very nice show tonight. It had the perfect blend of serious stories and comedy interactions. All in all, I would give the show a C grade.

The Good

I really liked the opening segment. Booker T and Goldust talking some sense into Cody Rhodes just seemed to fit. It seemed to set up one more Intercontinental title match for next week, but plenty more may have been set up for the future.

Alicia Fox is a star. That was all I could think of during her match. Shea teamed up with Kaitlyn to take on Tamina and Natalya. Nothing of note happened during the match, but I am interested in what happened after the bell. Tamina attacking Nattie? Wow.

I must note that I enjoyed all of the backstage segments tonight. Teddy Long and Aksana continue to be great together. Also, Drew McIntyre insulting Mr. Long is always fun.

My favorites included Daniel Bryan and Big Show, the whole "saving" aspect is really intriguing, and I am looking forward to their world title match next week. I have been saying it for months, but somebody is about to turn heel. Great job by WWE making next week's shows "must see!"

That being said, I loved David Otunga versus Big Show. Otunga continues to play his role great, and Mark Henry was kept out of the ring once again. Thank you! I could have done without Bryan's appearance, but it did fit in with "saving" Show once again.

Drew versus Big Zeke was fine, but it gets in the "good" section for two reasons. First, I love Drew's entrance music. Secondly, he is actually on WWE TV. I do not care if he wins or loses. The man is talented, and a loss to Ezekial Jackson means nothing.

Next up was Sheamus and Hornswoggle each claiming their right to win the Royal Rumble match. Many may not like Hornswoggle, but he is a wonderful talent in WWE. Same with Sheamus. I wish both of them well next month!

That led to a Heath Slater appearance. Why? I do not know, but I could see Sheamus beating him for two hours every week and be happy. This was quick and fun. No problem!

Finally, the entire main event was handled perfectly. They showed videos throughout the night hyping up the rivalry. Each man was treated like a star during their entrance and the match delivered! Fighting in an elevator? Ref getting knocked out? Action everywhere!

Plenty has been said about Randy Orton this week, and I am a little mixed on what to think. My first thought was that he shouldn't even be competing if he is injured. Next, how long is he really out? A week? A month? A couple months?

Either way, Barrett looks very good right now. He took out the Viper and could very well be next in line for a world title shot. As for Randy? Watch out for the Royal Rumble! WWE loves to have surprise entrants (win?), so his hometown crowd may be in for a treat next month!

The Bad

Jinder Mahal defeated Ted DiBiase. Sorry, but I did not fine any of this to be entertaining. I think Teddy has a great future in this business. I even find his "DiBiase Posse" to be a cool idea. However, I am just not emotionally invested in either man right now.

The Ugly

First, I understand there are extreme circumstances, but I like winners and losers. The main event needed a finish. With the Falls Count Anywhere stipulation, that ending was not acceptable.

Also, Hunico beating Justin Gabriel did nothing for me. Hunico's entrance is beyond ridiculous and Gabriel losing was a little unexpected. I did not mind too much, but nothing was accomplished here.

The post-match attack was even worse. Giving Hunico a "sidekick" will not make me care about him. He needs "something." A low ride bicycle is not the answer...sorry!

REMINDER: I am now on Twitter @JustinWatry! I give every new follower a special shout out, so do not be shy...thanks.
