UFC 141 Results: Jacob Volkmann Escapes with Victory Against Efrain Escudero

Jacob Volkmann dominated Efrain Escudero in one of the UFC 141 preliminary card fights on Friday night, but he nearly lost when Escudero got him into a north-south choke during the final round and was unable to reap the benefits before the final horn.

The result was a unanimous victory for Volkmann, with a 29-28 score coming from each of the three judges.

Volkmann is now 5-2 in UFC bouts and is 14-2 overall. Volkmann began to take over the fight in the second round when he took Escudero to the ground and got him in a body lock. He was unable to finish off Escudero, who managed to get to through the second round without losing the fight.

Escudero nearly stole the fight in the third round when he got Volkmann in a power guillotine, but the American did well to survive the round and not give up the bout after he fought so well in the first two rounds.

Most of the third round was fought on the ground near the side of the cage, where Volkmann desperately tried to not allow Escudero to take the decision with a submission.

Escudero should have tried his ground strategy sooner in the fight, because it was quite effective in the third round. He wan't going to beat Volkmann standing upright because the American is too powerful for him.

In the end, Volkmann survived and should be proud of his performance, but his slip-up at the end of the third round that nearly cost him the fight should be a concern for him moving forward. He is lucky to have won this bout.
