Big Names WWE Might Book for SummerSlam 2022

Donald WoodJul 17, 2022

SummerSlam is WWE’s second-biggest premium live event of the year and the company typically pulls out all the stops to make the biggest party of the summer unforgettable,

With the chance to book several retuning legends on top of the already deep roster of talented Superstars, Vince McMahon and company have the opportunity to make SummerSlam 2022 one of the best editions in history.

Here are the names wrestling fans should be looking for as the August event draws near.

Bray Wyatt

While it is abundantly clear the dark-themed vignettes on Raw each week are for Edge and not Bray Wyatt, the fact that the former WWE Superstar is trending every week and still the talk of the industry shows the impact he had on the business.

If the company really cared about making money, they’d bring back The Fiend and the marketing juggernaut that comes with the character. What better place to make his re-debut than at one of the biggest shows of the year, SummerSlam?

With Raw needing an immediate infusion of talent and name power heading into the critical period between SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble, Wyatt would instantly become the top draw on the brand again and his storyline would be must-watch TV as WWE competed with the NFL and the other fall sports.

Wyatt and his Fiend character could square off with anyone from AJ Styles to Seth Rollins, creating dynamic feuds and programs that would bring back the casual fans who have drifted away from the weekly product since it has grown stale.

Goldberg

When WWE feels it needs a big name to add to its pay-per-view card or heads to Saudi Arabia, there is one name the company always considers; former WCW world champion Goldberg.

As a bona fide draw and a popular performer even as he approaches his 56th birthday, Goldberg would be a marquee addition to the SummerSlam undercard. The veteran could be a valuable asset with several young performers like Omos and Riddle looking for a marquee match.

While Goldberg will never be mistaken for an in-ring technician, he knows how to tell a convincing story and can instantly make his opponent feel like a big deal. With SummerSlam holding so much importance for the company, he could help garner mainstream attention for the show.

Hardcore fans may roll their eyes at another Goldberg return—a vocal minority of the WWE Universe—a video posted two weeks ago of his match against Bobby Lashley from SummerSlam 2021 had around 500,000 views, proving he still has legitimate drawing power.

Add in the fact that the match itself would end up being a short burst of intense action, and a possible appearance at SummerSlam would help the company build excitement for the event.

Booker T

When 57-year-old wrestling legend Booker T returned to the ring on July 9 for his Reality of Wrestling promotion, most wrestling fans assumed it would be part of a storyline that eventually led to a match against AEW tag team stars FTR.

“Stepping back in the ring is not something I’m looking to do,” Booker T told Wrestling Inc. “I always said if WWE was to ask me to come back, I’ll do it, but it’ll only be for the check.”

With Booker T still heavily involved with WWE and wearing two Hall of Fame rings from the company, the more likely scenario would be a surprise appearance on Raw or SmackDown. With a bevy of young talent who need to be made into top stars, Booker T making an appearance on a Monday or Friday show could lead to a huge addition to SummerSlam.

While there is no doubt that it’s a long shot, the former world champion looked great in his return to action and could still put on at least one more marquee match. With talented performers like Theory and Gunther who could use premier storylines, Booker T would be a valuable addition to any card.

Whether he comes back or not, the WWE roster should welcome back Booker T with open arms.
