Lesnar vs. Overeem Predictions: Main Event Will End in the First Round

Tim KeeneyDec 30, 2011

If you're going to pay to watch Brock Lesnar take on Alistair Overeem tonight in the main event of UFC 141, then you better not blink.

If you do, there's a good chance you'll miss something big.

And by "big," I don't mean Lesnar or Overeem themselves, although they both certainly classify as such. At a combined 529 pounds, these two are going to provide a battle of epic proportions.

By "big," I mean a knockout, either of knee or the technical variety.

And it will come early, so you better make sure you're paying attention. I'm still a little bit on the fence about who will actually come out on top in this fight, but one thing is clear. If you're betting, take the "won't complete one full round" prop and proceed to take that all the way to the bank.

Really, there's two realistic ways this fight can go. Overeem will knock out Lesnar or Lesnar will take the fight to the ground and overpower "The 'Reem."

Overeem's striking power is just absolutely massive. If he can connect with a big punch or one of those manly knees, this one will be over in an instant and Lesnar will be out cold.

Considering "The Demolition Man" desperately wants to keep this match from going to the ground, I bet he comes out with fury and aggression so that he assures the fight stays upright. So, if he gets a knockout, it will come early.

On the other side of things, Lesnar is going to have to be equally aggressive in getting Overeem to the ground so he can use his wrestling skills. He's certainly capable fighting on his feet, but if wants to have any chance in this one he'll have to win a take-down.

Either way, both big men are going to come out with a sense of urgency, and both have weapons that can exploit the other's weakness and end things in an instant. That's a combination that equals a short fight.
