Tee Shepard Will Decide Between USC and Notre Dame by Picking out of a Hat
Recruiting prospects is serious business in college football.
They can make you a lot of money, especially if they lead you to bowl games.
But apparently some prospects, such as four-star cornerback Tee Shepard, aren't as serious about their actual decisions to commit.
According to Adam Gorney of Rivals.com, per Ryan Abraham, Shepard is saying that he will decide between Notre Dame and USC by picking a name out of a hat.
Shepard has already verbally committed to Notre Dame, but he has the right to withdraw his commitment if he so chooses.
If Shepard does indeed pick out of hat and ends up "selecting" USC, it would be a big blow to the Notre Dame program.
Notre Dame finished off a disappointing season this year by losing to Florida State on Thursday in the Champs Sports Bowl, 18-14. While defense isn't the Fighting Irish's problem area, it still hurts to lose a four-star prospect.
As for USC, this would be a blessing. While the Trojans' defense isn't bad (allowing 23.6 points per game), adding a cornerback like Shepard on the opposite side of the ball as top quarterback Matt Barkley would be huge, and it would set the Trojans up for a big bowl game in their first year off of ineligibility in 2012.
The Trojans weren't eligible to be placed in the BCS rankings this season due to Reggie Bush allegedly receiving improper benefits while at the school, nor were they allowed to appear in a bowl game, but they still went 10-2, losing to Stanford and beating Oregon. They were ranked No. 5 in the AP poll at the end of the regular season. Landing someone of Shepard's caliber would be huge for next season.
But, the question is, is Shepard for real or is he pulling an evil prank?
