USWNT manager Vlatko Andonovski is opting for some squad rotation between Saturday's 3-0 win and Tuesday's second game of the series with Colombia.
The big change comes at right back, where Sofia Huerta will get a chance to start over Kelley O'Hara, whose minutes are being managed ahead of the trip to Mexico.
Huerta could be vital for the USWNT's defensive depth in the new World Cup cycle, and she needs more than the 13 caps she has in order to fill an important role within the squad.
O'Hara is a known quantity on the international level with 153 caps, and there is no reason to push her ahead of an important tournament in Mexico.
Andonovski revealed that O'Hara would not start on Tuesday, and Huerta's meeting with the press on Monday signaled that she will take a role in the starting XI—even though the manager did not firmly state that.
The rest of the starting XI is still unknown, but some changes should be made for the second straight game at altitude in quick succession.
Taylor Kornieck and Ashley Sanchez are among the lesser experienced players on the international stage who need some playing time on Tuesday. Both players came on as substitutes on Saturday, and Kornieck scored the final goal in second-half stoppage time.
Trinity Rodman and Margaret Purce could land attacking roles in the starting XI, but it is hard to keep Sophia Smith off the field at the moment. The Portland Thorns player scored twice in the second half on Saturday and could get more playing time up top since she should be a vital part of the squad in Mexico.
One of Andonovski's other selection questions comes with Megan Rapinoe, who entered as a substitute in the 77th minute on Saturday. Rapinoe could use some more minutes to get fresher legs. The USWNT may need the 62-time goal scorer in some capacity as the Concacaf W Championship reaches the knockout phase.
Colombia held its own in its first matchup with the USWNT. The South American side played to a scoreless first half and only conceded twice before second-half stoppage time began.
Another tough match in which the Americans do not score multiple goals in the first 20 minutes could help the USWNT as it draws closer to its tournament opener against Haiti on July 4. The USWNT also plays Jamaica and Mexico in group play.
The USWNT should come away with a victory, and it would be ideal to earn it in similar fashion as Saturday to prep for more competitive games ahead on the horizon.
