NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Dejounte Murray, Malcolm Brogdon and More

Jake RillJun 28, 2022

With the NBA offseason in full swing, trade buzz is picking up. There were already some moves made during last week's draft (mostly involving selections), and there are sure to be plenty more to come over the next few months.

Some big-name players have been featured in trade rumors already this summer. While it's unlikely that all of them will be dealt, there could be some notable movement that occurs, with key players switching teams and altering the NBA landscape.

And with the moratorium period for free agency set to begin Friday, a lot of notable transactions could soon be taking place.

Here's some of the latest trade buzz from around the the league.

Could Murray Soon Be Dealt to Atlanta?

After spending his first five NBA seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Dejounte Murray may be on the move soon for the first time in his career. And it appears there's already a probable landing spot for him.

According to Zach Klein of ABC Atlanta, multiple league sources believe the Atlanta Hawks are on the verge of trading for the 25-year-old. In a potential deal, they would be acquiring Danilo Gallinari and "multiple" first-round draft picks.

Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer has been hearing the same information regarding a possible Murray-Atlanta trade, one that could include Gallinari heading to San Antonio.

"For certain: There's been plenty of conversation, sources said, on increasing the partial guarantee in Danilo Gallinari's contract, perhaps before the end of the NBA league year," Fischer tweeted.

The Hawks already have Trae Young at point guard, so if they paired him with Murray in the backcourt, it could make for a dynamic guard duo in the future.

And Murray isn't set to become an unrestricted free agent until 2024, so he could be in Atlanta for at least two seasons if a trade is completed.

Brogdon Expected to be Traded Soon

The Indiana Pacers made several notable trades during the 2021-22 season.

They sent Caris LeVert to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a deal in which they acquired Ricky Rubio on Feb. 7. A day later, they made a big trade with the Sacramento Kings, landing Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson in exchange for Justin Holiday, Jeremy Lamb and Domantas Sabonis.

Now that it's the offseason, it could be time for Indiana to again explore the trade market. And it appears the team may soon be dealing another one of its key players.

NBA reporter Marc Stein recently noted an expectation persists that Malcolm Brogdon "will be dealt sooner rather than later" by the Pacers (h/t HoopsHype).

The guard has spent the past three seasons with Indiana after playing three years with the Milwaukee Bucks at the start of his NBA career.

While it's unclear where the Virginia product could be headed, one team that reportedly showed some recent interest was the New York Knicks. SNY's Ian Begley noted they recently called to discuss the 29-year-old, but the Pacers "came away from those conversations with the idea that Brogdon was an option for New York, but he wasn’t their top option."

If the Knicks don't pursue Brogdon, there should be other interested suitors, especially because he isn't set to become an unrestricted free agent until 2025.

Rockets Receive Inquiries About Martin

The Houston Rockets' roster has already undergone some substantial changes this offseason.

They traded Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for a handful of players. And they parted ways with John Wall, who agreed to a buyout with the team on Monday, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Another player who may not return to the Rockets? Kenyon Martin Jr.

According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, several teams recently reached out to Houston about a potential trade, with the list of suitors including the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers.

"Houston likes Martin and believes he can still have a positive impact on the roster, but the Rockets understand the nature of the available minutes—or potential lack thereof now with an additional three players drafted—as well as the return of Usman Garuba," Iko wrote. "Should an adequate offer open up, Houston is open to finding a better fit for Martin elsewhere."

Martin, who is still only 21, has spent his first two NBA seasons with the Rockets. He's averaged 9.0 points over his first 124 games while mostly serving in a bench role, but he has still to reach his full potential. He could do that soon, whether it's in Houston or somewhere else.
