Oklahoma vs. Iowa: How This Performance Will Affect Landry Jones' NFL Decision

Caleb HartleyDec 30, 2011

To go or not to go? On Christmas Eve, instead of sugarplums, Landry Jones probably had "visions of millions dancing in his head." Any player with his ability would be thinking of the same thing if they were in the same situation. The problem with Jones is, his stock has fallen faster than Kris Humphries' reputation.

As the signal-caller for the preseason No. 1 team in the nation, Oklahoma, Jones was sitting pretty. Oklahoma coasted through their first few games until "road test Saturday" against Florida State. Yes, Florida State has a highly touted defense, but Jones looked like anything but a high draft pick.

By the end of the year, Jones had completely fallen off the radar. He and his team had both taken a tumble for the worse. They were beat by Baylor and eventual Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III for the first time in school history.

In a season where his team was supposed to be competing for a national championship and he was supposed to be sitting alongside Andrew Luck in New York for the Heisman presentation, everything has been flipped upside down.

Instead of getting a BCS bowl to show the NFL he still has the goods, he is relegated to playing an Iowa team, who while good, are not Stanford. Instead of coming out flat, which could easily be the tendency of a team with so much promise, Jones needs to rely on what put him so high on draft boards to begin the year.

There will be no Ryan Broyles to throw to, but he still has Kenny Stills. While Robert Griffin III and the Baylor Bears won an unforgettable Alamo Bowl, RG3 hardly had the game we have become accustomed of seeing from him.

While the chances of him passing RG3 on draft boards is slim, with a good showing, he can leave no doubt in NFL scouts' minds that he is a first-round selection...even if it isn't against Stanford.
