UFC 141 Odds: Brock Lesnar Is Perfect Underdog to Upset Overeem
UFC 141 will feature one of the most-hyped bouts of the year. Fitting, as the oddsmakers are falling victim to a great deal of hype at the moment as well.
As of this writing, Alistair Overeem is a slight favorite at -150. It seems that betting is taking place with the assumption that the year has been spent taking it easy for Brock Lesnar.
I understand where the line comes from because Lesnar is indeed a true underdog, but one that has the goods to shock with a memorable performance over a heavy hitter.
The fact of the matter is that endurance and conditioning will play a vital role in Friday's bout. Lesnar has shown an issue with such things before, and it's hard to fathom that his first fight since his title was ripped will have him any better than we saw him last.
You have to consider that Overeem will have some issues of his own. He isn't waling into the octagon against a feeble man that will be wheezing and gasping for air from the get go.
This fight might not make it out of round one, but I am not so sure it will be Lesnar that is the one panting for air.
Overeem is about to see why Lesnar was considered such a brute before his downfall. The man is one of the best at taking you to the mat and keeping you there. I have no doubt that Overeem has Plan B for when a deadly strike goes missing.
But the hype that Lesnar is near retirement and on the cusp of futility is laughable. I might change my thinking with a early knockout or submission, but I can't help but think one loss to a great fighter has been overplayed.
While the diverticulitis may have kept his sidelined for months, I have no doubt that we are going to see a fresh fighter in Lesnar on Friday night. This bout will not be Overeem's domination; rather, it will be Lesnar's surprise.
