UFC 141: Rivals Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone Will Meet Again After Tonight

Jake MartinDec 30, 2011

Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone are set to throw down tonight at UFC 141, and this will be the beginning of an epic rivalry.

From the minute this fight was first announced, excitement ran through every hardcore MMA fans’ veins because they knew Diaz plus Cerrone could equal a Fight of the Year candidate.

So don’t expect the monsters, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, to steal the show because Diaz and Cerrone's scrap is almost a lock for Fight of the Night. Their styles match up so well, as Diaz will try to pressure Cerrone with his relentless boxing and Cerrone will press forward with his aggressive Muay Thai strikes.

And if this fight were to hit the ground, you can expect to see one submission attempt after another. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind this will be the best fight of the night, but what makes this fight even sweeter is the bad blood between the two.

Leading up to the UFC 141 press conference, Cerrone said he tried to shake Diaz’s hand and Diaz slapped his hand, called him a “punk-ass” and walked away.

At the press conference, both fighters acted like the story was blown out of proportion and seemed to be cool with one another. Well, that was before the stare down commenced and the rivalry got heated again.

At the stare down, Diaz knocked Cerrone’s cowboy hat off and pushed him, and it’s safe to say this rivalry is heating up. The expression on Cerrone’s face was priceless. You could almost see the steam boiling out of The Cowboy’s ears.

I’m so confident tonight’s fight is going to be a crowd-pleaser that I’m willing to bet these two will meet again. Both fighters are going to go at it for three rounds with one fighter most likely edging out the other in a decision victory.

It’s highly unlikely either of these fighters will be able to stop the other, and it’s a very good chance that we could see these two mixing it up inside the Octagon again.

Their styles match up so well, and if they have a close fight tonight, a future rematch isn’t far-fetched. Seriously, I’m a huge MMA fan that never misses a fight, and I haven’t been this excited for a fight like this in a couple of months.

The overused phrase “styles make fights” has never been more appropriate. In a year that’s had one great fight after another, this fight has the makings to top them all, and UFC president Dana White will be all for a rematch if the fight lives up to the bill.

It’s easy to sell a fight between two guys who hate each other and go out and put on exciting fights.

Expect to see just that tonight. It will be the berth of another great MMA rivalry with future fights between Diaz and Cerrone sure to come.
