UFC 141 Predictions: Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks
If there were ever a fight to bet on the outcome being a decision, this would be it.
Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks doesn't figure to be a fight that most fans are amped about. With Fitch, you have a fighter who has had 13 of his 23 professional wins come by way of decision. In fact, Fitch has had a decision determine the outcome of his last nine fights. Regardless of the fighting style of his opponent, Fitch finds a way to keep his distance, secure a takedown and do just enough ground work to win his fights.
The only loss Jon Fitch has had in his UFC career came against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87 over three years ago. Although his record is stellar (23-1-1, 1 NC), he is not discussed as much as other prominent fighters due to his "lay and pray" style of fighting.
Johny Hendricks bring his 11-1 professional record into the Octagon with a very contrasting style of fighting. Only four of his 11 wins have come by decision, with six coming via knockout. Hendricks' success is dependent upon his opponent being overly aggressive. Once his opponent gets close enough, Hendricks has lethal punches that he can land very quickly.
Hendricks has a very strong wrestling background, but he will not be able to take Fitch down. Fitch has battled with some of the best fighters on the UFC roster and has come out on top in all but one fight. Fitch will use his five-inch reach advantage to keep his distance from Hendricks. Patience is also a virtue of Fitch's, and together with his experience, he will not make a mistake and get caught with one of Hendricks' punches.
This will be a classic Fitch fight in which he will get Hendricks on the ground and keep him there for most of the fight while doing just enough not to get stood up.
Prediction: Jon Fitch via Unanimous Decision
