Kevin Durant Video: Watch Thunder Star Drill Buzzer-Beater to Sink Mavericks

Eric BallDec 29, 2011

It’s Kevin Durant’s world and we are all just living in it.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were playing extremely sluggish basketball for the majority of Thursday night’s contest against the Dallas Mavericks.

Yet behind a strong all-around performance by Durant (30 points, 11 rebounds, six assists) and 15 points for James Harden off the bench, the Thunder fought through the fatigue.

With a 101-96 lead and just 46 seconds remaining, it appeared that the Thunder were on cruise control. A Jason Terry three-pointer and two Serge Ibaka missed free throws later and it was a 101-99 game when Vince Carter (yes, he’s still in the NBA) nailed a cold-blooded triple to put Dallas up one with just under two seconds left on the clock.

The game was all but over.

But the Thunder drew up a play that gave the two-time defending scoring champ Durant a look at a catch-and-shoot 28-footer.

Swish.

Despite having an outstretched defender in his face, Durant nailed the shot and secured a 4-0 record for his team while sinking the defending world champs to 0-3.

This is the kind of early season game that can be looked back upon as season defining. The Thunder didn’t play particularly well yet kept their heads up and kept grinding. This team is maturing before our eyes.

This also could be the sort of loss to make everybody in the Mavericks locker room question themselves. Are they still hungover from last June? Nothing is going right for the champs and everything seems to be working for one of the youngest teams in the league.

Welcome back, NBA.

This may not end up being the best play of the season, but it’s got a top 10 feel to it.
