Dolph Ziggler: Will He Defeat CM Punk for WWE Championship?

David LevinJun 7, 2018

It's only a matter of time.

You can see the wheels turning and the veins in John Laurinaitis' head about to explode. It is more about revenge than anything, but Dolph Ziggler is ready at reach the pinnacle of the WWE.

While Ziggler and CM Punk appear to be destined to become long-time rivals, it is Ziggler who looks like he will get the push to become a world champion.

Punk is everything we hope for in a champion: charismatic, fun, aggressive and very entertaining on the mic. He has become the face of this company. Ziggler has been on the rise, garnering wins over the champion and has had the one thing Punk doesn't have while trying to reach the top: Laurinaitis in his corner.

As long as there are questions about CM Punk being able to get ratings, there will be a superstar waiting in the wings to take his place. John Cena is involved in his own little mind warp with Kane. Cody Rhodes is about to either lose the Intercontinental title to Booker T and then embark on a feud with Daniel Bryan for the world title or challenge his brother, Dustin, in a feud for daddy's love.

The Miz is caught in a battle with R-Truth and, well, that leaves Ziggler.

Ziggler has proved to be a great rival for Punk in that the last four times the two of them reached the ring—they gave us great matches, albeit interfered with matches that have led to Laurinaitis opening his mouth (please shut up).

Ziggler can carry his weight and may draw, but Punk will always be more popular.

Monday night was proof that with a little help from his friends, including Laurinaitis and Vicki Guerrero, it is only a matter of time before the strap is taken off Punk and put on Ziggler's waist. And while it is not John Cena and Punk battling it out, it is still pretty darn entertaining.
