Michael Jordan Would Be Wise to Get a Prenup This Time Around
One divorce reduces an insanely rich dude down to being a filthy rich dude, but a second divorce may knock off that bonus adjective altogether.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Michael Jordan gave his girlfriend that he’s been dating for three years an extra special Christmas gift this year: an engagement ring.
Yvette Prieto is the 32-year-old Cuban-American model that Jordan will marry whenever he finds the time. After all, being an NBA owner is quite time consuming.
On that note, for the sake his wallet and the Charlotte Bobcats, it would be wise for Jordan to sign a prenuptial agreement with the future Mrs. Jordan.
Prieto would be MJ’s second wife. His first, according to the Los Angeles Times, took a whopping $186 million with her after their divorce in 2006. As Wale would put it, Jordan’s wallet can’t afford to take another Pilates class.
In reality, though, the Bobcats may not actually be in any danger. According to Forbes, as of 2010, Air Jordan’s net worth rounded out at approximately $500 million dollars, give or take a few dimes. It looks like Jordan's check book didn’t end up suffering from that divorce too badly.
But back to the Bobcats, who Forbes reports is worth $281 million. His Airness bought them in 2010 for $175 million. Math isn’t my specialty, but it looks like Jordan would still be able to hold onto and run the Charlotte franchise if his bank account takes another hit.
I’m not to saying that Jordan and Prieto won’t go on to have a wonderful marriage and live happily ever after. But what’s that saying, though? Take my money once, shame on you. Take my money twice, shame on me?
Something like that. It would be a wise decision to make sure another $186 million doesn’t disappear from Jordan’s net worth.
