Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns: Spread Info, Line and Predictions

Wes ODonnellDec 29, 2011

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns get together one last time to close out the regular season. The game means nothing for Cleveland other than draft position and means everything to Pittsburgh for playoff positioning.

Should the Steelers win and Ravens lose, they'll claim in the AFC North. There is also a chance for them to win the No. 1 seed in the conference.

A lot at has to happen, but it all starts with winning this game.

Where: Cleveland Browns Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio

When: Sunday, Jan. 1, 4:15 p.m. EST

Watch: CBS. DirecTV 716.

Spread (according ScoresandOdds.com): -7

Pittsburgh took on Cleveland at home only a few weeks ago on Thursday night and won, 14-3. The game was sloppy and they didn't cover.

Cleveland's defense will fight back, but their offense is in trouble. Seven points looks like a lot, but the Steelers aren't going to let a division crown slip through their figures because they couldn't hold up their end of the bargain.

Over/Under: 37

They combined for 17 points last time they got together. This won't be much different.

Key Injuries (according to StatFox)

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers: Questionable (Ankle)

Lamaar Woodley, LB, Steelers: Questionable (Hamstring)

Maurkice Pouncey, C, Steelers: Questionable (Ankle)

Colt McCoy, QB, Browns: Doubtful (Concussion)

T.J. Ward, S, Browns: Out (IR)

Fantasy Big Plays

Start 'Em: Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers

If Big Ben plays, the Steelers are still going to want to protect him as best as possible. That means they need get their running game on track. And, with the playoffs possibly one week, there is no better time to do that than now.

Sit 'Em: Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers

Same reasons for Mendenhall to be good is reasons Ben should be bad. Plus, Cleveland is one of the better secondaries in the league.

Keys to Steelers Win

Stay disciplined and own the trenches. Pittsburgh not only needs to find their run game, but they need to keep Big Ben's jersey clean—if he plays.

The Steelers still have a lot on the line, although they don't control their own destiny, and they can't afford to be the reason they don't win the AFC North.

Their defense will take care of a hapless Cleveland offense, but it will be on the Steelers o-line to win this game.

Keys to Browns Win

Hit Big Ben and force turnovers. The Browns' best chance at pulling out a win here rests on field position and their defense.

The Steelers offensive line has trouble blocking nearly everyone, and Cleveland's defensive backs will be in position should Ben, or whoever is under center, throw any ducks into the secondary.

If they can't do that, Pittsburgh's going to pound the ball down their throats.

Prediction: Steelers 20, Browns 7
