Braylon Edwards and the 3 Biggest NFL Failures in Recent Memory

Remember when Braylon Edwards caught 16 touchdowns for the Cleveland Browns in 2007 and was on the fast track to NFL stardom? 

What happened? 

His release from the San Francisco 49ers was his most recent fall from grace, and it's sad, because he had a respectable 2010 with the New York Jets. 

Edwards isn't the only failure fresh in our minds. 

Braylon Edwards

Edwards hasn't been a total disaster over the last few years, but after being drafted No. 3 overall and following a monster 2007, he's been rather disappointing. 

He totaled more than 900 receiving yards with the Jets in 2010, but essentially didn't contribute to the 49ers this season. 

The former Michigan Wolverine appeared in nine games and caught 15 passes for 181 yards and no touchdowns. 

He was released earlier this week and went unclaimed on waivers. 

That's what injuries can do to a player's perceived viability. 

Roy Williams

What a colossal disappointment Roy Williams has been. 

He's been on a whirlwind journey over the last four years, going from a sure-fire No. 1 receiver in Detroit, to somewhat of a flop in Dallas after he was traded for a ton of draft picks, to a total flop in Chicago with the Bears. 

Although the quarterback situation, post-Jay Cutler's injury didn't help, Williams was hardly a factor in 2011. 

He has 33 catches for 447 yards and one touchdown on the year. 

Not exactly the possession receiver with explosive tendencies the Bears were looking to infuse into their offense. 

Albert Haynesworth

The worst of the worst, in terms of recent flops. 

Haynesworth was the $100 million dollar prize of the Washington Redskins in free agency just a few years ago and now he's a situation guy on a 4-11 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

There was no doubting it, he used to be the most disruptive interior defensive lineman in football. 

After his huge payday, he fell out of favor in DC thanks to poor work ethic and laziness on the field. He was given another chance in New England, and was released by the Patriots. He rarely played and wasn't especially effective when he was between the lines. 

Did you even know Haynesworth was still playing? 

Don't worry, you can still consider yourself an NFL fan if you didn't. 

He's a complete afterthought.
