Oakland Raiders Latest Injury Report: Good and Bad News

Michael SanteramoDec 28, 2011

The Good News

Finally there is some good news for Raider Nation. After a season filled with injuries, the Raiders are expected to have the majority of their weapons on the field Sunday in a must-win game against the San Diego Chargers, barring any setbacks.

The big news coming out of Oakland is that Jacoby Ford is on the practice field today, for Wednesday's practice. According to the Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune, "Ford is running routes, catching passes and doing everything else asked of the wide receivers." Ford has been out for six games since he injured his foot against San Diego on November 10.

We saw how much of a spark Denarius Moore gave the offense when he returned to the field after his injury. The same is expected from Ford, who has big-play ability with his blazing speed. This gives the Raiders a huge boost in the passing game.

Oakland also had starting safety Michael Huff on the practice field. He is expected to play after missing last weekend's win over the Chiefs

Taiwan Jones is listed as questionable, but is expected to play. He isn't meant to carry the load, but his great speed and burst is a good change of pace to Michael Bush's powerful downhill running style. It is important to have him out there to complement Bush.

The Bad News

As expected, RB Darren McFadden was unable to practice today. His status is questionable and the chances he will play in Week 17 are becoming slim.

Also, defensive tackles John Henderson and Pro Bowl-bound Richard Seymour were not on the practice field. I still expect Seymour to play this weekend. He has been dealing with injuries and missed practices all year but has not missed a single game. He's a gamer.

Analysis

I know that Raider Nation has been holding onto hopes for McFadden to return, but the news today should still be exciting for Raiders fans. Even without McFadden, the Raiders were able to defeat San Diego in November. The important thing is that this team finally has some weapons on the field. A receiving corps that includes Heyward-Bey, Ford and Moore should give the Chargers' secondary fits. Overall, the return of Ford is great news for Raider Nation.
