Betting Line
Jaguars (-4), according to Bodava.
That number is just big enough where you actually have to consider the possibility of the favored team winning, but not covering. I like the Colts in this one, especially with a four-point cushion.
What's at Stake?
Nothing more than pride and draft picks. Obviously, neither team is anywhere near the playoffs, but the order of finish in the division can't even be changed.
Colts' Injury Report
Per USA Today.
Colts' LB Phillip Wheeler and TE Dallas Clark are questionable.
Jaguars' Injury Report
Per USA Today.
Jaguars' T Guy Whimper and DB Dwight Lowery are questionable.
Jaguars' WR Cecil Shorts is probable.
Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit 'Em and Sleeper
Start 'Em: Maurice Jones' Drew is the only must-start player in this game.
Sit 'Em: Blaine Gabbert. There have been times this year where I've been high on Gabbert, and if your league is still running, Week 17 is not a bad week to try new things. But the Jaguars don't have any passing threats for Gabbert to throw the ball to, and he's struggled.
Sleeper: Either defense. This game will not feature a lot of points.
What They're Saying
Mike Lopresti of the Indianapolis Star feels like the Colts must find a way to lose this game and lock up the No. 1 pick in the draft. In doing so, he compared their current situation with the one they faced in 1997, when they got the No. 1 pick and subsequently took Peyton Manning.
""But the Colts are in a pickle. Go back to 1997. Had that Indianapolis team somehow found the drive to win its last game, there would likely have been no Manning, no golden age, no Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts would still be playing in their old dome, or Los Angeles."
"
Vito Stellino of the Florida-Times Union said the Jaguars' only focus is winning the game, not the draft status of either team.
""But the Jaguars aren’t thinking about any of these scenarios after losing 23-17 to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday.
"They just want to finish the season with a victory and avoid losing their last three games of the season for the third year in a row. They also haven’t won their final game of the regular season since 2005."
"
Colts' Player to Watch
DE Dwight Freeney. He's been one of the Colts' only bright spots and can make the final game of Blaine Gabbert's rookie year a long one.
Jaguars' Player to Watch
RB Maurice Jones-Drew. He can negate Freeney's speed-rushing ability with a good running day.
Key Matchup
Dan Orlovsky vs. the Jacksonville secondary. Orlovsky does have weapons at his disposal, and the Jaguars' secondary is awful. If Orlovsky is given time, this will be a long day for the Jaguars.
On the Hotseat
Colts' Coach Jim Caldwell. He needs every win he can get to be comfortable about saving his job. For the Jaguars, it's Gabbert. They need to have reason to believe he's the man of the future. If they don't, they will be looking to make moves.
Prediction: Colts 16, Jaguars 14
The Colts are coming into the game with more of a hot streak. This will not be a pretty game, but the Colts will pull it off.
