Jackie Battle Injury: Updates on Chiefs RB's Week 17 Status and Fantasy Value

Zachary D. RymerDec 28, 2011

The emergence of running back Jackie Battle has been a bright spot for the Kansas City Chiefs this season, but it's sounding like they may have to play their season finale against the Denver Broncos without him.

Battle injured his foot during the Chiefs' overtime loss to the Oakland Raiders on Christmas Eve. He was spotted in a walking boot at practice on Wednesday, and his status for Sunday's game is up on the air.

We're going to be keeping tabs on Battle's status in the coming days. For all the latest updates and fantasy analysis, check back here periodically.

Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com tweeted today that Battle is out of Sunday's game in Denver.

Obviously, fantasy owners need to look elsewhere if they are depending on Battle. Dexter McCluster is likely your best bet on the Chiefs.

As mentioned above, Battle was spotted in a walking boot at Chiefs' practice on Wednesday. Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com broke the news via Twitter:

Not exactly good news for the Chiefs. The Broncos are vulnerable against the run, and Battle is their leading rusher. If they have to tackle Sunday's game without him, they'll have their work cut out for them.

If you're a fantasy owner counting on Battle to rack up points on Sunday, this is a blow for you too. Battle hasn't been a consistent scorer this season, but he's not a bad third or fourth option.

My advice is not to count on Battle being ready for Sunday. It would be one thing if he was questionable, but he's doubtful. Even if he does play, you have to think Battle will be limited.

If you have another option, I'd use him.
