LaMichael James: Rollercoaster Ride Shows True Colors of Oregon's Star RB
LaMichael James has made a name for himself at the University of Oregon by becoming a fearless running back willing to face any challenge that is presented to him. But even the toughest of football players can be made to look like a coward on a rollercoaster ride.
In one of the best images of the holiday season, James' teammate Kenjon Barner posted a picture on Twitter showing the star running back's reaction to the daunting "Space Mountain" ride at Disneyland.
As you can see, James did not appear to be having as much fun as everyone else around him. In fact he looked like he had just seen a ghost, and that ghost was a 500-pound linebacker that had 4.2 speed and was hurling itself at him.
Now before I get on my high horse and talk trash about James being afraid of a rollercoaster, I have to admit that I have had similar reactions. I could not handle the "Millennium Force" ride at Cedar Point the first time that I went on it.
It's not that the ride itself is scary, I just have this thing about heights. So I can appreciate why James had the reaction that he did.
But I am also not a football player that has had to deal with big LSU defensive linemen trying to plant me into the ground as far as they can.
Perhaps James was unaware of how brutal and unforgiving the ride is, and his shock got the best of him in this picture. Maybe he was just making the funniest possible face that he could make and had a picture snapped at the perfect moment, but that's pretty far fetched.
Nothing that James does on the field is going to let him live down the indelible image of him riding a rollercoaster looking like he just saw someone beat up Puddles the Duck.
