Hakeem Nicks Injury: Updates on Giants WR's Week 17 Status and Fantasy Value

Michael DixonDec 28, 2011

As the New York Giants are preparing for a winner-takes-all game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the status of one of their top players is in doubt.

Hakeem Nicks played through an injury in Week 16 against the Jets, and it now appears as though he'll have to do the same thing against the Cowboys in Week 17.

Nicks has already missed a game this season and has dealt with injuries for a lot of the season. However, he has still managed to catch 71 passes for 1,116 yards and six scores.

UPDATE, Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3:05 p.m. EST

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post is reporting that Nicks was held out of Thursday's practice.

This is certainly not a good thing but at this point of the season, it pays to be careful. It's hard to imagine Nicks not being on the field on Sunday night.

UPDATE, Thursday Dec. 29 at 2:38 p.m. EST

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Nicks is saying in no uncertain terms that he will play.

This is certainly a positive sign for Giants' fans and fantasy owners alike.

UPDATE, Wednesday Dec. 28 at 11:05 a.m. EST

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Tom Coughlin believes that Nicks will be in action against the Cowboys, despite missing practice.

Fantasy owners should be comfortable with Nicks at this point, as should fans of the team.

UPDATE, Wednesday Dec. 28 at 10:49 a.m. EST

Ralph Vacchiano is reporting that Nicks was listed on the Giants' injury report.

Certainly, you never want to see someone hurt. However, if your fantasy league is still going, you'll be okay right now. You might want to start scouting the waiver wire, but this doesn't seem like anything to panic about.

The same logic applies to the Giants and their fans. If this injury was serious, it's unlikely that this would be a "surprise" on the injury report.
