Manchester City Transfers: 10 Players Who'd Make Man City Stronger

Alex HallDec 28, 2011

Manchester City currently finds themselves atop the English Premier League table, but even the league's No. 1 team needs to make this unit even stronger through the winter transfer window.

Man City has been rising through the ranks of the EPL in recent years, acquiring superstars like Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri in the past several seasons. The Manchester club should continue to make big splashes this transfer window, and here are 10 players that would make this first-ranked club even better.

Eden Hazard

1 of 10

Eden Hazard has been a transfer rumor darling for a few seasons now, with Lille OSC seemingly holding out for the best time to cash in on their superstar.

Hazard has already publicly told El Confidencial that if a transfer was to happen, he would only accept an offer from Real Madrid. Man City, however, is fairly certain that their financial power can once again land them a big name.

Hazard's agent has already told Goal.com that his client has been in talks with City about a 30 million euro deal. The fact that the Belgian attacker has been entertaining this offer bodes well for Manchester.

In 19 appearances this season, Hazard has already scored seven goals and tallied five assists for his French club.

Daniele De Rossi

2 of 10

Roberto Mancini has already publicly downplayed the possibility of Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi coming to his club, but De Rossi would still be a fine addition.

The Italian footballer is playing for his hometown team and prying him away from Roma might prove too costly for City, but De Rossi is everything you want in a midfielder.

He's rarely injured and can be a goal scoring threat on occasion. De Rossi has played in 265 games for his club, while scoring a total of 31 goals over the span of his career.

Andrei Arshavin

3 of 10

Arsenal Gunner Andrei Arshavin has spent his past three seasons with the club, totaling a solid line of 20 goals and 23 assists over that time. This is a stat line Manchester City wouldn't mind seeing from Arshavin on their side of the pitch.

The Russian footballer has been linked to rumors in which the Gunners would send him to Bayern Munich in exchange for Frenchman Franck Ribery.

While this potential deal could prove problematic for City's negotiations, the fact that Arsenal is willing to move the Russian means that there could be a deal or price tag the team could offer if the Ribery deal were to fall through

Neymar

4 of 10

In yet another bidding war between Real Madrid and Manchester City, both clubs are desperately trying to buy Santos forward Neymar.

Neymar is just 19 years of age and has already racked up 40 goals in just 85 appearances for his Brazilian club. With this stellar play, he has earned a spot on the legendary Brazilian national team and a hefty price tag to leave his native country.

With Carlos Tevez's departure seemingly a matter of when more than if, acquiring a talent as young and yet experienced as Neymar would be an excellent use of euros. The Daily Mail reported back in September that Roberto Mancini has been begging the higher-ups in City to pay whatever necessary to acquire the young footballer.

Marek Hamsik

5 of 10

Serie A Club Napoli rose up three ranks from their 2009-2010 season in the league table, in large part due to their young talent like Marek Hamsik.

The Slovakian midfielder had a fine 2010-2011 season where he scored 11 goals and six assists for his Italian club, and has only progressed in the new football season.

Hamsik has already driven five goals into the back of the net and assisted on four occasions. That scoring output is more than Samir Nasri, James Milner and Yaya Toure have put together for City so far this season.

Edinson Cavani

6 of 10

Speaking of impressive starts to the new season, Marek Hamsik's teammate Edinson Cavani has already posted nine goals following his 26-goal output a year ago.

Napoli currently wants 40 million euros to acquire the Uruguayan scoring threat, which may be too high even for City, but there's no doubt he'd look good in a slightly different shade of blue in England.

Sergio Busquets

7 of 10

Anytime you can sign an FC Barcelona player, it's generally a savvy move.

Tutto Mercato has reported that Roberto Mancini was interested in signing the Barca defensive midfielder last summer, but instead had to settle on Owen Hargreaves.

Hargreaves has been injury prone since coming over from Manchester United, and it wouldn't be surprising if Mancini made another play at Busquets before the winter transfer window comes to a close.

Ross Barkley

8 of 10

Everton's Ross Barkley is another teenage phenom who could be on the move, with the Daily Mail claiming that Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are all in the hunt to sign him.

The young footballer is just 18 years of age, but finds himself targeted by three of the most worldwide recognizable clubs.

Barkley has just one assist to his name professionally with no goals just yet, but that's partly due to his age and Everton likely easing him through his early years in the English Premier League.

Any of the three aforementioned teams would do the same if they could pry him away from Everton, but having an up and coming star hiding on City's roster would provide the team insurance in case Carlos Tevez leaves and they're unable to find an immediate replacement.

Milos Krasic

9 of 10

After Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea made their interest known for Juventus star Milos Krasic, Giuseppe Marota quickly stated the team has no wish to move the Serbian.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of Roberto Mancini packaging a deal that could change Marota's mind, however, which would give City a talented young winger to build around for seasons to come.

A deal from Mancini including Alexander Kolorav has been reported by talkSPORT. It may take a bit more to score Krasic, but he would provide immediate production for Man City along with being a building block for the future.

Robin Van Persie

10 of 10

Now it would be less than ideal, but if Manchester City could make a swap for the disgruntled Carlos Tevez to Arsenal in exchange for Robin van Persie, this deal could happen.

The Dutchman has posted 20 goals and six assists already this season in just 23 total appearances. That means he's averaging almost a goal a game.

Reports have linked Real Madrid to van Persie where the Spanish club would send Karim Benzema back to Arsenal. If Real can do a swap like that, what's to stop City from doing the same with Tevez.

Ideally, Man City would want to send Tevez out of the EPL so he wouldn't be facing them as often, but if you're going to get a prolific scorer like van Persie for him, it's worth the risk.
