Pro Bowl Snubs: The Top 4 Players Who Were Royally Screwed
It happens every year.
And it's a shame.
A handful of NFL guys that pieced together magnificent seasons are snubbed from the Pro Bowl while undeserving players on the best teams and individuals with "better" reputations take their spots.
As a fan, when you get angry enough to care about your favorite player missing out, remember, the Pro Bowl is a total farce.
Still, some stars will not make the trip to Hawaii.
Victor Cruz
1 of 4Currently, Cruz has the third-most receiving yards in the NFL and has been a dynamic playmaker for the New York Giants all season.
He's caught a number of deep balls from Eli Manning and was deadly on shallow crossing routes, often picking up major yards after the catch.
While I can't gripe about Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald, it's easy to see why Cruz should have been named to the NFC team over Steve Smith or Greg Jennings.
Cruz has more yards and touchdowns than Smith with the same yards per catch, and Jennings hasn't even eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark yet, though he's been injured.
Reputation goes a long way in the Pro Bowl voting process and Cruz is starting to build a fine one for himself.
Matthew Stafford
2 of 4Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees I understand.
But Eli Manning?
Another reputation selection.
Nothing against the Giants signal-caller, he's had a great year, just not as great as the Detroit Lions' Matthew Stafford.
He trumps Manning in essentially every category important to quarterbacks.
Stafford has 10 more touchdown passes, two less interceptions, a better completion percentage and a better QB rating.
Manning has 69 more yards through the air. Big deal.
Lastly, and most importantly, Stafford has led his Lions to a 10-5 record and their first playoff berth since 1999.
The overhyped Giants have been wildly inconsistent this year and are 8-7, but could still win the NFC East.
Aldon Smith
3 of 4On ESPN.com, Aldon Smith is listed as a linebacker.
How in the world was he not picked over the Green Bay Packers' Clay Matthews?
I know Matthews has become a poster boy for the NFL, appearing in a few commercials and with hair that's easily recognizable, but let's face it, he doesn't belong in the Pro Bowl this season.
He has six sacks on the year, and three interceptions, one of which came in Week 16.
Smith, on the other hand, has been a terror all year, accumulating 14 sacks with two forced fumbles. One more quarterback takedown and he will break Jevon Kearse's rookie record of 14.5.
Reputation wins out once again.
London Fletcher
4 of 4Where's the reputation now?
Fletcher has the respect of every player in the league, consistently is near the top of the league in tackles and is known as one of the best leaders in the NFL.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010, why not this year?
The 14-year veteran leads the league with 163 tackles, has three forced fumbles, seven pass deflections and two picks.
Brian Urlacher was the pick most likely ahead of Fletcher.
He has 92 tackles, no sacks, seven pass deflections and three interceptions on the 18th ranked defense that allowed more than 250 yards per game through the air in 2011.
Someone explain to me how Fletcher has only made two Pro Bowls?
