Brewers vs. Rays MLB World Series Game 5 Live Updates, Results, Highlights and Reaction

Kerry MillerOct 28, 2026, updated 6 min ago

Three of the four games in this World Series have been edge-of-your-seat, not-over-until-it's-over thrillers.

Foremost among them was last night's 12-inning extravaganza, in which Cooper Pratt's home run temporarily made it look like the Brewers were going to finish off the sweep.

The Rays didn't quit, though, mounting a comeback via four consecutive singles off Shane Drohan to give us at least one more baseball game to watch in 2026.

Can Tampa Bay protect home field again and send the series back to Milwaukee for Game 6?

Or was that Game 4 rally merely the precursor to a gentleman's sweep?

Keep it right here throughout Game 5 as we provide updates on what will hopefully be another gem in the Fall Classic.

It's Miz Time

Drew Rasmussen makes it through the top of the first inning unscathed—notably, on just 11 pitches—and now it's time for the flame-throwing sensation.

Jacob Misiorowski's first pitch in Game 1 came in at 103.5 MPH.

I'll set the over/under at 102.8 tonight.

Nick Martinez Is Available for Tampa Bay

World Series: Milwaukee Brewers v Tampa Bay Rays - Game Four

Game 1 starter Nick Martinez threw 33 pitches in Game 4, but by all accounts—including Ken Rosenthal moments ago on Fox's broadcast—Martinez is available for potentially two more innings tonight.

Will be interesting to see if Kevin Cash goes immediately from Rasmussen to Martinez or saves him for another potential extra innings scenario.

Drew Rasmussen on a Pitch Count of 60(ish)

"They've done studies, you know. Sixty percent of the time, it works every time."

Listen, we're going to be talking about 2004 a lot tonight as the Rays attempt to channel the '04 Boston Red Sox for an improbable series comeback. So, here's hoping you're ready for some 22-year-old pop culture references.

At any rate, it sounds like Drew Rasmussen is going to be limited to about 60 percent of a normal start.

Could be a bullpen game by the fourth inning.

Inevitable History

If Milwaukee wins tonight, it'll be the first World Series title in 58 years of franchise history.

But if Tampa Bay wins tonight, it'll be the first time in more than twice that many years' worth of World Series history that a team rallied from a 3-0 series deficit to even force a Game 6.

Tampa Bay Rays Lineup

Ben Williamson delivered the walk-off, pinch-hit single in Game 4, and he'll be getting the start at second base in place of Richie Palacios tonight.

Aside from that, the Rays are running it back again with what worked for them last night, hoping for another three-hit game out of the 6-hole from Chandler Simpson.

On the bump, it'll be Drew Rasmussen on short rest. After Game 1 starter Nick Martinez tossed two innings in relief last night, the Rays pretty much had to turn to their ace here.

For their sake, here's hoping he looks more like he did in the first three games of the postseason (1.29 ERA) than he did in Game 2 in Milwaukee (7.36 ERA).

Milwaukee Brewers Lineup

For the visitors, it will be business as usual at the plate. The Brewers have had the same nine guys in the starting lineup for all five games of this World Series, and they'll appear in the exact same order in Game 5 as they did in Game 4.

The one colossal change from last night, however, is Jacob Misiorowski on the mound.

The soon-to-be NL Cy Young winner hasn't been nearly as lethal in the strikeouts department during the postseason (25.4 percent of batters faced) as he was during the regular season (37.9 percent), but he allowed just one run in five innings of work while winning Game 1 of this series.

A repeat performance might be enough to get the Brewers their first World Series ring.
