NBA Trade Rumors: Clippers Must Ship Mo Williams out of LA

Richard LangfordDec 26, 2011

Mo Williams has to go before he tears apart the Clippers from the inside out.

The 29-year old point guard is used to starting, but after the Clippers signed Chauncey Billups and then traded for Chris Paul, Williams' role and minutes were massively reduced.

This has led to speculation that Williams is on the way out.

The Rumors

Due to rules of the amnesty clause, the Clippers cannot trade Chauncey Billups. This leaves the bull's-eye on the back of Williams. Any team looking for a point guard is going to take a look at Williams, as he should be one of the most available options on the market.

Michael London of Sporting Alert reported that the New Orleans Hornets are "believed to be very interested in bringing him as a replacement for Paul."

The Hornets just can't get enough Clippers players apparently. Perhaps LA could get some of their players back if they traded Williams.

Why Mo Has to Go

Williams was visibly upset after being benched in the fourth quarter of the LA's opening night win over the Golden State Warriors.

If Williams couldn't make it through the first game without losing his head over his reduced role, it is unlikely that he will be able to make it through the entire season without being completely miserable. Eventually, this will lead to chemistry problems.

This young Clippers team needs to figure out how to play together and not how to fracture. They also just don't need to have three point guards when they are miserably thin in the frontcourt. They need to use that excellent depth to help them become a better team.

Williams is clearly good enough to be a starter in the NBA. The Clippers need to make sure he goes to a place where he can start and better their team in the process—before it destroys them.
