NFL Playoff Predictions: 4 Players Most Likely to Grab Super Bowl MVP Award

Chris TrapassoDec 26, 2011

Can Green Bay Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers join Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw as the only players to win back-to-back Super Bowl MVP awards?

He's definitely the favorite entering this year's postseason after leading his team to a 14-1 record and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Oh, and the guy has a remarkable 45 touchdown passes and only six interceptions this season.

However, there's some fantastic competition out there.

Let's check out the guys most likely to capture the award.

Aaron Rodgers

So much for Green Bay looking susceptible.

Rodgers was back to his old tricks against a Bears defense that is certainly overrated.

Now with home-field advantage, the Packers won't have to leave Wisconsin before the Super Bowl.

Outside of the 49ers, there isn't really an outstanding defensive unit in the NFC playoff picture, or one that Rodgers has struggled against, meaning he could easily be on a tear entering the Super Bowl if the Packers advance that far.

We saw what he did facing a stout Pittsburgh Steelers defense in last year's Super Bowl, so why couldn't he put on a similar performance this year?

Although he was protected last night and did throw five touchdown passes without his No. 1 target, the extra week of rest for his offensive linemen and Greg Jennings will be huge.

Tom Brady

Tom Brady is carrying the New England Patriots right now.

The defense is downright awful and they aren't showing any signs of improvement. In order for his team to win, No. 12 has to give a masterful effort and throw two or three touchdowns.

It's become that simple.

There's a great chance he'll essentially be the sole reason the Patriots win another Super Bowl title if they can accomplish that feat in February.

Drew Brees

3 of 4

The Saints defense isn't nearly as bad as the Patriots, but Brees is the life-force of this New Orleans team.

He can't lean on a defense creating a multitude of interceptions like he could in 2009. In fact, the Saints only have eight interceptions on the season, the second-lowest total in the NFL

Anyone else pumped to see him break Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record tonight?

I am.

Not exactly as sexy as the home-run record in baseball, but still, quite the feat.

If he orchestrates another journey to Super Bowl triumph for the Saints, you can bet he'll be on that MVP trophy, again.

Remember, three of the last seven Super Bowl MVPs have been wide receivers.

Although the Lions will have an uphill climb to a Super Bowl victory coming out of the wild card, is there a better receiver in the NFL right now, with more big play potential?

Definitely not.

Matt Stafford would obviously be a candidate for the award, but if Megatron has a huge postseason, is integral in a few upset wins and catches a few touchdowns in the Super Bowl against what will most likely be a favored team, he'll win the MVP.
